Chapter 3785
Isabella said, “If Louis wants to climb up to the roof to take off its tiles, my mom would even go as far as to give him a ladder to climb up there. You don’t know the situation, so I don’t blame you, but when we get back, I’ll have a good talk with my mom.”
Louis and his brother exchanged glances, wondering if they had caused trouble.
“Isa, since they’re already here, just let them play in your office. They’re probably going stir-crazy at home.” Seeing that her baby brother and cousin looked scared that they had caused trouble, Tati could not help but feel sorry for them and spoke up in their defense. “They’re kids, after all—they love to play.”
Austin also added, “It’s winter break right now. Most other kids are out playing already, and they’re stuck at home. Even though the house is big, they’ll eventually get bored playing indoors.”
Just like when he and his brothers were younger, they had a children’s playground at home too. In fact, they lived on a manor estate on the hill and had an even bigger area than Louis and Phillip had to play in, but they still liked to explore outside of it. They were luckier in that they could play near the foot of the hill, and everyone living there was employed by the York family, so the workers’ children also played with them.
However, now, many of the workers’ children had either gone to work at York Corporation or returned to take over their parents’ jobs, continuing the work their families had done. Having grown up at Wildridge Manor, they knew it well.
The only difference was that those childhood friends, when they saw them now, would respectfully address them as “sir” or “Mr. York.” and no longer acted casually like they did when they were kids.
Austin still treated his childhood friends the same way, but they were no longer as carefree as before. Over time, they interacted less and less. Plus, now that the brothers had started work at the company, they were very busy with work and had little time to catch up with old friends.
Louis chimed in, “Austin’s right. Phillip and I are stuck at home all the time, and we’re bored. We wanted to go out. Isa, Tati, it was Phillip and I who insisted on coming, so don’t blame Austin.” Louis even defended Austin, worried that in the future, Austin might not take him out anymore.
Isabella gently patted her brother’s head and said, “I’m not saying you can’t go out. It’s just that you need to take proper safety precautions. You’re still young and don’t understand the dangers outside. Even though we teach you regularly, bad people don’t wear signs on their faces, and you’re too young to tell the difference.”
“Isa, we covered our faces with scarves so no one could see our faces.”
Isabella smiled. “Yes, yes, you’re very clever. This time, I won’t hold it against you, but next time, if you want to go out with Austin, you have to ask me first. You’ll be allowed to go out once I arrange someone to go with you.”
Austin was silent for a moment before speaking up, “I can actually protect the boys myself.”
All the York brothers were well-rounded, capable of protecting both themselves and others. They were rigorously trained in both self-defense and academics. When they were young, if they did not train properly, their nana would beat them with a whip. It hurt a lot, but under her strict guidance, they grew up to be strong, capable, and outstanding individuals.
Thinking of Grandma May, Austin suddenly felt the urge to call her, just to hear her voice again. When they were little, their grandparents took care of them most of the time and taught them many things. They were influenced the most by their grandparents, so naturally, they felt the most affection for them.
After their grandfather passed away, they experienced the pain of losing a loved one. Since then, their devotion to their nana only deepened, and they cherished the living even more.
Back then, when Grandma May insisted that Zachary marry a woman he did not know to repay her debt of gratitude, even the strong-willed Zachary agreed, simply because he valued the bond with his nana that much. He was willing to sacrifice his marriage for her happiness. Fortunately, everything turned out well in the end. Now, he and his wife were happily married and well-known in Wiltspoon for their loving relationship.
