Chapter 3765

“Do you think you’d even have this much if it weren't for Mom killing Aunt Tiara and Aunt Alivia to seize it all? Your personal belongings are your business to handle as you wish, but whatever is within my authority is up to me, and you have no right to say anything about it. It won’t change my decision even if Mom were to come back to life and criticize me for it, much less you.” Caroline looked at her three brothers. “However, I do understand your anger and resentment, so if you want to curse at me, go ahead. I can take it. I won’t hold a grudge against you for that, but stop thinking about going back to Fisher Manor to take the antiques and valuables to sell for money. Those were passed down through the generations by the matriarchs and will continue to be done so. No one is allowed to touch them. “Even when Mom was alive, she never coveted those things. Don’t listen to Dad and rush to take and sell them—that’s theft. If Audrey calls the police, you’ll be in serious trouble. Don’t expect me to plead for you, and as for Dad, you can expect even less from him. If he had any capability, he wouldn’t have married Mom and into the Fisher family in the first place. He’s always been after the benefits the Fishers can bring to the Clarks.” Caroline believed that Hunter had had feelings for her mother, but their union had not come about from pure motives, tainted by too many complications. Belinda had given her heart to Patrick long ago and had never loved Hunter during their decades-long marriage. They merely lived together to have an heir. Yet, Belinda would not allow Hunter to betray her. It was undoubtedly difficult for him, and it hurt his pride, but that was the path he chose. Who else could he blame? Had her mother forced him at knife-point to marry her? Plus, were they unaware of just how much the Clark family had benefited greatly from their connection to the Fisher family over the decades? Without the Fishers, the Clark family would have long been ruined. How would they have the comfortable lives they were enjoying now? All those benefits came from the Fishers. In Caroline's eyes, her parents' union was a transaction—just one that lasted a lifetime. “If you want to live well, listen to me. Resign from Fisher Enterprise now, sell the house you’re living in, and buy a new one farther away, as far from the center of the Fishers’ power as possible. “Stop coveting the things that don’t belong to you. With your personal assets, you can still support your family with the rental income even if you stop working. Living a simple life is a blessing. Consider the past decades of glory and wealth as just a dream. I’m sincerely saying all this only because we’re siblings. You can choose to listen or not—it’s up to you. I won’t say it again.” She had shown her three brothers a path out; it was up to them to take it. If they did not, then they should not blame her for not warning them if something eventually went wrong. “Neither Audrey nor Liberty will hold a grudge against you as long as you keep your heads down and don’t provoke them. You can live a peaceful life. But if you’re like Mom, always feeling unsatisfied, I won’t detail what will happen. You’ll just reap what you sow.” Belinda’s unwillingness to accept her situation and her greed led to her tragic end. The faces of Adrian and his two brothers darkened. Seeing their expressions, Caroline realized that everything she had said was in vain. They had not taken her words to heart and did not have her level of acceptance and willingness to return everything that did not belong to her to Audrey. Perhaps it was because she had not grown up in the Fisher family. She had only just reunited with her biological parents for around three years, and given that her relatives had treated her poorly, she was able to let go of what did not belong to her very easily.
