Chapter 3766
However, her three brothers were different. They had grown up in the family and enjoyed all the riches and honors that came with being the young masters of the Fisher family, even though it was a matriarchy. However, with their mother as the head of the family, they still received a great deal.
The time span was significant too—over several decades. Suddenly asking them to give up everything they had enjoyed was indeed devastating for them. It was hard to accept, and they were unwilling.
Caroline sighed and said, “Adrian, you’re the oldest, quite a few years older than Justin and Jason. You know what the situation is like now. Think it through carefully and talk to them. We can’t compete with Audrey and the others. In the family, we have lost everyone’s support and trust.
“In this situation, we should withdraw gracefully and return everything that originally belonged to them. This can help ease tensions and regain some trust among the family. At the very least, the mistakes our mother made won’t implicate us as her children. That would already be quite good. We need to recognize reality.”
Caroline’s mouth was dry at this point after all the speaking. She stood up, poured herself a glass of water, and sat back down, sipping it as she faced her silent brothers. “I said all I wanted to say. You should take care of yourselves. I still have many things to deal with, so you guys should attend to your duties. If you can’t focus on work, take leave and go to the hospital to take care of Dad.”
With that, Caroline was effectively dismissing her brothers. She also reminded them, “Whatever you do, don’t do anything reckless. If our mother, who was such a clever and capable person, couldn’t carry out her schemes, how can you? Think about your children. Our dad is unreliable, and I’m not particularly close to you. If something happens to you, don’t expect me to take care of your kids. I won’t do that.”
The Clark brothers were speechless. What a heartless sister! Their children were Caroline’s niblings, and here she was, so unfeeling, despite being their aunt. They believed that Caroline meant what she said. The brothers exchanged glances. Since their sister was so resolute, what could they do?
“I’ll take leave,” Adrian said coldly.
Without waiting for Caroline to respond, he stood up and left first, his expression dark and filled with pent-up anger. He truly felt like strangling this sister of theirs.
Why had their mother insisted on swapping back the two daughters? Could she not have just left things as they were and not acknowledged Caroline as her daughter? If they had not brought her back, and if Celine had been the heir, they would not have to endure such humiliation.
Celine would have been on their side, fully committed to protecting everything their mother left behind. Belinda had managed the entirety of Fisher Enterprise and the Fisher family for decades, so why could it not become part of her estate for them to inherit?
