Chapter 856
Ryan had expected Eloise to take her time pondering the problem, but she immediately had an idea after Camelia spoke.
"You won't be able to chase them away with fire only. I used to visit a classmate who had a fruit farm at home. They also suffered from bat infestations back then, and the bats would always eat their fruits. Her parents were devastated when they saw the skin of the fruits on the ground."
Camelia hurriedly asked, "What did they do to save their fruits?"
"At first, they tried to light up the area." Eloise explained, based on what she remembered, "However, after a while, it proved that the lights weren't effective. The bats would still eat their fruits. Then, they secured the farm with a wire fence to prevent the bats from getting close. But it didn't work as well."
Ryan couldn't wait for the answer anymore as he kept his gaze on her. "What did they do next?"
Eloise smiled, and it looked like she found the solution hard to believe too.
"My classmate's parents asked a farming expert about it, and the latter told them to install eight speakers around the farm and play some music…"
"What?" Camelia was in disbelief and couldn't help exchanging glances with Ryan. She wondered if Eloise was telling the truth. "Did they not hurt the bats? Why would they play music for them and make it more enjoyable to eat the fruits?"
Ryan smiled bitterly. "Were your classmate's parents hoping the bats would leave in peace after eating?"
Eloise giggled. She found their words childish. "It's not like that at all, guys!"
She suppressed her laughter and explained further, "You both know how a radar works, right? Bats navigate at night using sonar, sending out waves that reflect back, allowing them to detect obstacles like nuts and fruits."
"Nuts?" Ryan looked down at his crotch.
Eloise blushed and stomped her foot frustratingly. "Oh, Ryan… That's not what I meant. I'm talking about nuts like almonds."
Camelia solemnly said, "Can you be serious, Ryan?"
"Alright!" He agreed and didn't dare to go against her.
Eloise pressed on, "Bats don't navigate with their eyes or ears. Instead, their bodies can send out some kind of wave. The waves will be reflected, and they'll be able to tell if there's an obstacle in front of them and avoid it. They are basically like a plane!"
Ryan was confused by what he had heard, and Camelia was lost as well. They didn't know what she was trying to say.
Eloise felt awkward as well when they couldn't understand her.
So, she went straight to the point, "By playing music through the speakers, my classmate's parents were able to confuse the bats with the sound waves. Then, they couldn't navigate the farm anymore and started flying into walls everywhere.
"The farm became a blind spot for them. Two days later, the bats didn't dare return."
Camelia finally understood what she was saying at that moment. "So, all we have to do to get rid of the bats is to install speakers around the cornfield and play some music?"
Ryan chuckled. "But we're on a deserted island. Where are we going to find speakers and music?"
They both thought what Eloise said was useless, and they were frustrated.
Eloise was also frustrated and embarrassed, and her face blushed brightly. "Can't you two focus on the point and figure out what's important?"
Ryan asked confidently again, "Then, tell us what you're thinking."
"We can use noise to confuse the bats!" Eloise said anxiously. "We might not have speakers, but we have pots and plates. If we create some noise for a few nights, the bats will stop coming!"
Camelia finally understood everything. She excitedly rubbed her hands together with a wide grin. "Oh, Ryan and I sure are dumb! I think that's a great idea!"
Ryan said with a smile, "The pots and plates won't be enough. I'm going to sing too. I also want to use a type of powerful voice to mess with the bats' minds. Then, they'll be so confused that they start flying into boulders and trees. I hope they die because of that!"
