Chapter 857

Camelia thought Ryan was serious and asked, "What kind of powerful voice?" With a mischievous grin, Ryan glanced at Camelia and Eloise. "The kind that sounds irresistibly alluring!" Camelia was at a loss for words, taken aback by his playful demeanor. Eloise, meanwhile, flushed deeply and lowered her gaze. Ryan's amusement only grew at their reactions. Laughing heartily, he said, "You two should prepare the tools for tonight. I'll handle the rats first!" Camelia and Eloise returned to the cave while Ryan asked Sherry to get him a bucket full of water. Then, he placed the bucket of water next to the burrow with a stick on the ground. "Well, look at you pests! How dare you dig a burrow here and munch on Eloise's sweet potatoes? Today, I'll make sure you can't escape this spot!" Lighting a cigar, Ryan held it in his mouth, picked up the bucket, and poured water into the burrow. Once he had judged the water level as sufficient, he picked up the stick and prepared for the next step. The water in the burrow bubbled nonstop. After a couple of minutes, a dirty rat as big as a fist stuck its head out of the burrow. That wasn't the only rat—in fact, there were three of them! Ryan was furious when he saw them. With the cigar still in his mouth, he started slamming the rats on their head with the stick. "One! Two! Three!" He got them all. He was able to hit the rats skillfully because of all the training he had received playing whack-a-mole. It was all about reaction time. That was what he did to clear four burrows. In the end, he killed 11 rats. The biggest rat weighed around 1.5 pounds, and the smallest weighed at least half a pound. To the women, those were just dirty rats. However, to Ryan, they were all delicacies. Since the rats lived on the sweet potato farm, they were organic as well and had all the nutrients he needed! Ryan dealt with the rats and cleaned them before roasting them over a fire. Once golden and crispy, they looked irresistible. He eagerly ate one and stored the rest in his shack. After three days of rat elimination, Ryan had successfully cleared out the pests from the sweet potato farm, leaving him ready for any new arrivals with open arms. He had dispatched 30 rats in total. After eating three, he hung the remaining 27 in his shack. Meanwhile, Camelia followed Eloise's plan and crouched in the cornfield with Ryan and the other women. When the bats came, they started making noise everywhere. The pots and plates made a lot of clunking noise, and Ryan sang a terrible-sounding song. He tried to sing as loud as he could. Then, a miraculous phenomenon happened. The bats were actually colliding with each other like fighter jets in an intense battle. After two days of hard work, the bats no longer dared to come. It was just as Eloise had said—the cornfield had turned into a blind spot for them.
