Chapter 848
It was dark at night, and Ryan worried that Camelia might slip and fall. That was how he broke his left arm.
"Am…" Feeling anxious, he almost called her by her nickname. However, he suddenly realized other women were in the cave, so he changed his approach. "Ms. West, I'll head down with you after we eat!"
However, she had already left the cave and was heading down the mountain. Freya knew how Camelia felt. Anyone would feel upset when pests destroyed something they had worked hard to grow. If it were her, she wouldn't be able to sleep that night as well.
She sighed and solemnly said to Ryan, "Why aren't you going after her yet? You're also responsible for her negligence as well!"
He was stunned, and he looked at her curiously. "How… How am I responsible as well?"
She was referring to how he was seducing Camelia. Since they had been busy showing affection to each other recently, Camelia was distracted from her duties. That was why Ryan was also part of the reason there were pests in the cornfield.
However, Freya didn't mention that. Instead, she urged him, "Just go now! You can have your dinner when you've returned! If Ms. West gets bitten by a venomous snake or something, you're gonna feel heartbroken!"
Ryan's pupils dilated instantly as he finally understood what Freya was trying to say. After realizing that Freya knew they were in the cellar earlier, his ears immediately became red.
He quickly grabbed a torch and hurriedly left the cave to get out of the awkward situation. Then, he ran after Camelia. "Amy, wait for me!"
He finally caught up with her at the bottom of the mountain, and she stopped in her tracks. "Why did you come down?"
"I'm going to check out the corn with you!" he answered.
He had exhausted himself that day, and she felt bad for him. She wanted him to return to the cave to enjoy dinner before resting. "I can do it myself, and there's no need for the both of us. You should head back now."
Ryan was too worried for her. "No way! I'm going with you. What if there's a snake or something? You won't have to be afraid with me by your side."
He spoke so sincerely that she felt extremely touched. Camelia smiled to express her gratitude.
"Wow! Are you two still heading to the cornfield to have fun at this hour?" Sherry had to relieve herself badly, so she did it beside her shack. While she was doing her business, she saw their torches. So, she hurriedly stood up and put her pants back on.
She was certain they were going to secretly have fun in the cornfield and felt upset, so she spoke harshly and sarcastically.
Camelia explained, "You're overthinking it! We're just going to check out the corn!"
Sherry didn't believe her. "What's there to check?"
With a broken heart, Camelia said, "Some pest is eating our corn!" After saying that, she hurriedly brushed past Sherry.
Ryan gently pinched the latter's cheeks. "Oh, you… Why is your mind full of nonsense all the time?" Then, he went after Camelia.
Sherry touched the spot where he pinched her and felt extremely embarrassed and aggrieved. "Was I full of nonsense? Isn't that how he usually is?"
Feeling curious, she decided to follow them as well. She wanted to see what was eating their corn.
Camelia couldn't see any signs of their corn being eaten from outside the cornfield, and she wondered if Freya had lied to her. "They're not eaten! Was Freya imagining it?"
Ryan believed Freya wouldn't lie about it. "Let's take a look inside!"
Then, they entered the cornfield with a torch each. Suddenly, Camelia screamed heartbrokenly. "Look, Ryan! Oh, my! The pest has eaten a lot of them!"
She dropped to her knees as she said that.
