Chapter 849

Ryan took a look and saw corn all over the ground. They looked like they had been destroyed. He picked up a corn cob for closer inspection. The newly grown corn had barely developed; some were not even ripe, yet something had already devoured them. "Why does it look like a human ate it?" Ryan's heart skipped a beat, and he instinctively raised his torch to look around. He was worried there might be an aboriginal nearby. Sherry hurriedly clung onto him, looking terrified. "There won't really be an aboriginal around, right?" He patted her hand and tried to calm her down. Camelia's heart skipped a beat too. She finally relaxed when they found no one after Ryan lifted his torch. "If there really is an aboriginal eating your corn, I'm never letting them go for it!" He said it to comfort her, but she didn't respond to him. Instead, she aimed the beam of her torch downward. Camelia shook her head and said, "It couldn't be an aboriginal. The soil is soft, and if someone has stepped on it, there will be footprints. However, there are no other footprints other than ours." Sherry hurriedly looked down. Since they were wearing crocodile boots, the prints they left behind were unique. Meanwhile, Ryan was wearing a pair of normal shoes, and the prints he left were obvious as well. Although the five women had different-sized feet, they all looked the same. That meant that there were only two kinds of prints in the cornfield—one belonging to Ryan and the other to the other five women. To be certain, he looked around with the torch again. As expected, that was really the case. He couldn't help being impressed by Camelia. She could keep her mind clear when she was sad and angry. "Then, what would eat the corn? It's a shame that they aren't even ripe yet!" Ryan said heartbrokenly. Camelia looked around the cornfield and the environment. "If they were eaten during the day, we would've noticed it. After all, we're all working during the day. So, whoever ate them must've secretly done it at night!" Sherry agreed with her. "That's right! I work nearby, so I would know if anything happened here." Hearing how confident Sherry was, Ryan couldn't help thinking about what he had done with Camelia in the cellar that day. "Really? Then, did you know we were working in the cellar today?" She confidently said, "Of course! Ms. West was handing you corn from the outside, and you were receiving them inside the cellar." Ryan's ears turned red, and he instinctively exchanged glances with Camelia. The latter tucked her hair behind her ears. He rubbed his nose and half-jokingly asked, "Then, did you know when I was singing in the cellar?" Sherry burst out laughing. "You were singing in the cellar? Haha! With that voice of yours, you would have knocked Ms. West out!" He glanced at her and noticed how she didn't care at all. Seeing how happy she was, it didn't seem like she knew what he did with Camelia in the cellar. If she knew about it, she would've gotten extremely jealous. With that thought in mind, Ryan let out a breath of relief. Sherry only saw them working hard and didn't know what they had done next. Camelia wasn't as worried as Ryan. She tried to avoid being distracted as much as possible while figuring out what would eat the newly grown corn. "Now, we can be certain that some animal has been eating the corn at night. If we want to find out what it is, we'll have to wait somewhere close. That's how we can find out the answer." Ryan didn't want Camelia to tire herself out, so he volunteered. "I'll keep watch here after I'm done with dinner later. We have to catch the thief!" When Sherry heard that, she suddenly had a happy thought. She yawned and purposely looked tired. "You two can go ahead and keep watch by yourselves. I'm heading back to bed. Goodnight!"
