Chapter 540
At Innerzen Medical Center, Cyrus switched to the Hippocrates Sect SIM card. Then, he sent a message to the head of the Herb Gatherers Clan.
Cyrus: "Chandler is about to assume the role of prefectural governor at southern Gressland. All of you must protect him and his family's safety in the shadows."
The head of the Herb Gatherers Clan replied: "Yes, my lord!"
Cyrus: "If you encounter any problems you can't solve or situations where it's inappropriate to intervene, contact Mr. Johnson of Innerzen Medical Center immediately. Let him help you."
The head of the Herb Gatherers Clan: "We've already followed your instructions and established business relations with him."
Cyrus: "Very good. Keep in touch with him."
The head of the Herb Gatherers Clan: "Yes, my lord!"
Mira skipped school that day because she was feeling down. The sudden loss of her best friend filled her with overwhelming sorrow.
While swapping out the SIM card, Cyrus suggested with a smile, "Sweetheart, let's go on a family trip to southern Gressland at the end of the year once all my work is done. How does that sound?"
Mira immediately snuggled into Cyrus' arms, beaming. "Daddy, we've never gone on a trip before."
Zoey was also smiling as she approached them with some fruit. She first fed Mira a cherry tomato and then stuffed one into Cyrus' mouth.
Her actions were those of a loving wife, prompting Cyrus to eat one after the other.
"Mira's health has improved a lot. Since we don't have to worry about money anymore, we should take her somewhere fun," Zoey remarked.
During her teenage years, she occasionally went on budget trips with her friends. However, she had not been anywhere far ever since she got married.
"Once Chandler gains a firm foothold in southern Gressland, we'll go over and have some fun," said Cyrus.
"Daddy, you're not a baby. Why do you want Mommy to feed you?" Mira asked.
Cyrus chuckled and answered, "I like it when she feeds me. The food tastes sweeter and tastier."
He did not just want the cherry tomatoes. In fact, he yearned to savor Zoey's exquisite hands.
She had slender fingers, and her skin was soft, fair, and glowing. They were truly the most beautiful hands Cyrus had ever seen.
Zoey merely smiled in response.
After feeding Cyrus another cherry tomato, she uttered, "I'll go make lunch. You play with Mira."
Jessie felt bored in the ward and wandered upstairs. Seeing that Cyrus was ignoring her, she approached Zoey, saying, "Zoey, let me help you prepare lunch."
"Sure, help me wash the vegetables. Why don't you eat here later?" Zoey offered.
"Okay. Can you make barbecue ribs?"
Zoey agreed without hesitation, "No problem."
After that, she asked tentatively, "Ms. Sykes, did you know your Uncle Robert has become the mayor of Jorsproburgh?"
Jessie froze upon hearing that.
"No, I had no idea. My family didn't tell me. Is Aunt Megan here too?"
Zoey replied, "Yes, we saw her at the mayor's mansion this morning."
Jessie was well aware that Robert's sudden appointment as mayor of Jorsproburgh was no coincidence. The Sykes family was truly making a move to enter the Jorsproburgh market.
The thought of her still undergoing treatment at Innerzen Medical Center while her family was targeting Cyrus left Jessie feeling uneasy.
"Zoey, as you know, the Sykes family is huge. So, there's hardly any affection between us. To be honest, I haven't been in touch with Aunt Megan for a long time," Jessie explained.
Zoey did not make things difficult for her either. Instead, she simply commented with a smile, "It's okay. But you should visit her when you're free. After all, you're still a family."
"Yeah, I understand."
Once the food was ready, Jessie wanted to eat at the cafeteria. She felt too embarrassed to mooch off them here.
However, Cyrus insisted, "Just eat with us. While you're here, you're my patient. Whatever the Sykes family does has nothing to do with you."
Jessie felt like she was sitting on pins and needles. A sense of unease gnawed at her as she asked, "Can't you reconcile with my grandmother? I can act as your mediator."
Cyrus served Mira some food and replied coldly, "No need. Even if the Sykes family wants to reconcile, it's too late."
The real problem was not about fighting for control over the Jorsproburgh market. It was about the Sykes family secretly engaging in venom and producing venom puppets.
If their trillion-dollar fortune were obtained through such means, Cyrus would make it utterly worthless.
