Chapter 518

"Sorry, Mr. Hayes. My eyesight isn't what it used to be, and I'm not good with smartphones," Jason replied. Margot and Nicole, who were down in the dumps, felt relieved upon hearing that Jason had not yet voted. They hoped Cyrus could persuade Jason to vote in their favor rather than let Jordan continue gathering support. Jason was a cunning businessman. He might change his mind anytime. However, Cyrus did not even raise his head. He remained calm and confident. When Jason was about to vote again, Jordan grabbed his hand tightly. "Mr. Xenos, you're a major shareholder, and you're here at the meeting. You can just vote directly without using your phone." "It's okay. We're all friends here. Saying it out loud would be awkward. I'll just click on the system," Jason replied. He tried to pull his hand away. However, Jordan held on tightly as he was genuinely afraid. Why did Jason refuse to take a stance? "Mr. Xenos, Jason Xenos!" Jordan shouted desperately. "Are you voting for me or for Cyrus? It's a simple question. Why are you making it so complicated? We're partners, aren't we? Do you still want the Sykes to help you with your divorce with Quinci Fox? Do you want to lose 20 billion?" Jason finally managed to free his hands and replied, "Mr. Hayes, you're one of the heads of the four families in Jorsproburgh. Do be a good sport. You can't rush these things. If I made a mistake, I have to fix it." Margot was nervous too. She sarcastically said, "Mr. Hayes, are you having cold feet? Why are you so impatient? Are you threatening a shareholder?" "I'm not! I've already won. I'm leading by four percent, which is 40 million shares." "Please get out of the way. Let Jason vote in peace," Nicole urged. "Fine, fine. Go ahead and vote now," Jordan said, pointing at Jason. "Mr. Hayes, can you stop peeking and stay away from me? I might make a mistake if I'm nervous," Jason smiled and said. What a cunning bastard! He was almost driving Jordan to tears with frustration. What a fuss. Jordan was experiencing a roller coaster of emotions. He reluctantly returned to his seat and glanced at Cyrus. "Mr. Johnson, is your game that interesting? Aren't you worried that you're about to lose? Mr. Xenos is definitely on my side." Cyrus finally looked up and pointed at the screen. "What do you mean, Mr. Hayes? Isn't the result already out?" Jordan turned abruptly to the screen and realized Margot had turned the tables. It was 41 percent for Jordan and 52 percent for Margot. With a majority of over 51 percent, the result was clear. No further support could change the outcome. He stood up abruptly, clutching his chest. He pointed at Jason and shouted, "You're such a bastard! How dare you trick me? You said you'd support me!" Jason looked confused. "Mr. Hayes, I said I'd support the rightful owner of the company. How can I support you if you're no longer the owner?" "What the hell are you saying?" Jordan was so angry that he spat out a mouthful of blood and nearly collapsed. He looked at Evelyn and said, "Mrs. Sykes, you have to do something. Jordan Pharmaceuticals is the Hayes family's legacy. It can't fall into Cyrus' hands." There was nothing Evelyn could say at this point. The vote was legally binding. There was no way to go against the entire Summerland for a good-for-nothing. "Did you and Jason Xenos conspire to buy up the stocks and raise the price? You idiot!" Evelyn scolded. Had Jordan not assured her of Jason's loyalty, she would've had Owen intervene sooner. Billions were nothing to them. They wouldn't be in this mess now. Evelyn now faced the daunting task of explaining this debacle to Owen. Handling the families in Jorsproburgh would be even more difficult after such a failure.
