Chapter 95
Ms. Smith couldn't help but laugh, and her smile reached her eyes. "What is there for me to be jealous about? Even if you almost got married, isn't he next to me now? Looks like you're not all that."
I had never seen Casey so infuriated.
Kourtney was soft and gentle, so she always got scolded by Casey. But Ms. Smith wasn't scared of Casey at all. She had a solid family background and was straightforward. When facing Casey, she wasn't even scared. Instead, she managed to trigger Casey.
"Jace, you're just going to let this woman bully me?" Casey turned to me with red eyes.
I replied, "You came looking for trouble first, didn't you?"
"What do you mean by that? Are you being unreasonable now that you're with her?" Casey pointed at Ms. Smith.
Ms. Smith slapped her hand away. "I hate it the most when someone points at me. Get that filthy hand out of my way!"
"What?" Casey widened her eyes. "How is my hand filthy?"
"I must've forgotten. Not only are your hands dirty, but your heart's just as filthy. I still have that high-resolution, uncensored video of you saved on my feed. Makes me sick every time I see it.
"But this guy doesn't look like the one from your little video, does he? Guess you've been busy. Do us all a favor and stay far away. I'd rather not catch AIDS."
Every word hit Casey like a slap to the face. She stood frozen, completely stripped of any defense.
Samuel was the one with Casey today. When he heard Ms. Smith's words, his face darkened. "Miss, I suggest you watch your language."
"What a joke. A person that sells fake medicine dares to judge me? Aren't you afraid of karma?" Ms. Smith's words stunned me.
"Just wait! I won't let you off!" Casey seethed with rage as she turned around and left.
Ms. Smith scoffed. "Tsk, she's not capable yet still dares to stir up trouble. Dream on!"
"So you know her?" I realized that Ms. Smith seemed to know Casey more than I expected. Did they have a grudge against each other?
Ms. Smith rolled her eyes. "Not really. But I guess being in the same field makes us rivals in a way."
I suddenly understood; Casey was doing medical research, and Ms. Smith's family had a research institute too. They had a conflict of interest there.
"So you're the unlucky one who almost married her?" The video had gone viral among Ms. Smith's circle of friends. She found it disgusting so she hadn't watched it. Hence, she hadn't known who the unfortunate groom was—until now.
I had never expected her to hear of me through that incident.
I nodded. "Yep. That's me."
She smiled and patted my shoulder. "Thank god you didn't marry her. Seems like you dodged a bullet."
"Yeah." I nodded.
Casey hadn't gotten anything today, and I guessed she left to avoid bumping into Ms. Smith again. I thought the auction later might go smoother than I had imagined.
The auction finally began, and Ms. Smith took the initiative to ask me, "Once I buy the hospital, do you wanna work there as a doctor?"
"I have a job now."
"I know you're going to take over your family business, but if that's the case, why didn't you study finance? Why go into medicine?"
It seemed like Ms. Smith could see through me. She stared at me and added, "It can be appointment-based—you only have to come when you have patients. When you don't have any appointments, you can work at the company. What do you think?"
