#Chapter 77: A Trick of Moonlight
Caleb
“What happened?” Daniel asked, watching us pass him. He and Joseph were seated in the parlor where we’d had all our other debriefs, but our hands were still dripping blood. Daniel noticed.
“The test included a blood offering,” I called over my shoulder as Ruby and I hurried toward the kitchen, holding our hands over the sink. “Joseph, would you—”
“Grabbing the first aid kit!” he called.
“The Moon Priestess didn’t offer you any bandages when she was done?” Daniel asked, following us into the kitchen and examining our hands.
“No,” I said.
“That’s highly unusual,” he said.
“Look at that,” I teased. “We agree on something.”
Daniel didn’t laugh at my joke. Granted, the feud between us had certainly eased since our trip to the Brungins territory. He seemed to trust me a little more after seeing how I protected the woman we both cared about.
Still, I expected some reaction from him. He didn’t even look up at me, though. He was too focused on Ruby’s bleeding hand.
