‘Kieran’s the perfect husband in every way,’ Rainey said. ‘Rich, handsome, smart, comes from a good family. Probably good in bed, too.’
She sighed. ‘I never thought he’d turn out to be Kenneth’s friend.’
‘What exactly is your point?’ I was getting impatient.
‘I’m just trying to tell you, I’m willing to let bygones be bygones, and you should do the same. I no longer have any feelings for Kieran. I wouldn’t have approached him if there was another piece of land that suits our purpose better. But there isn’t. So, talk to your husband, will you? Tell him what I said. Feel him out. I’d like us to be business partners.’
Rainey’s face gave nothing away.
She looked almost sincere.
I smiled. ‘Sure, I’ll let him know.’
Surprise flitted across her face.
She raised her glass. ‘Then I’ll wait to hear from you.’
I watched her sashay away, replaying every word she said in my mind.
What was she hoping to accomplish here?
