Chapter 77 Ada's Phone Call
The surveillance footage showed Barry leaving his ward around 2 p.m. He had taken a call in the corridor, appearing visibly agitated, and then hastily rushed downstairs.
After he left, he never returned.
About half an hour later, a nurse discovered Barry's absence and promptly informed the on-duty doctor.
Usually, when a patient leaves the ward, they don't raise immediate concerns. They dispatched a nurse to look for him, but after an extensive search within the hospital grounds, they couldn't find Barry. That's when they contacted Sabrina.
This was the situation in a nutshell.
Sabrina's eyes were fixed on the interface where Barry was taking the call. Who could he have been talking to with such evident nervousness? It certainly couldn't have been her or her grandfather, given her work at the company and Parker still staying at the hospital.
Besides, Barry was relatively new in the area, and he hadn't met many people.
So, the only plausible explanation was that he was talking to Ada. It seemed like everything was connected to that woman.
Marcus remained unaware of the issue with the property deed, so he couldn't understand why Sabrina was so worked up.
"Let's stay calm. Maybe he received a special call. It doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong. Shall we go downstairs and check on your grandfather? Perhaps Barry visited him before leaving?" Marcus suggested.
"Give me a break. My grandfather isn't too fond of Barry right now. If he had visited Grandpa, Grandpa would've called me," Sabrina retorted.
"I don't understand. What do you mean your grandpa isn't fond of Barry right now? You're family, right? Besides, he cares for your grandpa deeply and even brought him here for treatment. He wouldn't just leave, would he?"
Seeing Marcus's confusion, Sabrina was tempted to spill the beans about what her brother had been up to. But such ugly family secrets were better kept hidden.
"Never mind. Let's go see my grandpa."
They quickly made their way downstairs to Parker's ward, and much to their surprise, they found Ada by his side.
However, the atmosphere was tense, and Parker didn't seem pleased with her presence. Ada sat alone by the bedside, maintaining an unexpected air of politeness.
Sabrina, who had been simmering with anger, flared up at the sight of Ada. Her emotions were on the brink of boiling over.
Upon seeing Sabrina, Ada brimmed and greeted her, "You came straight after work. Have you had dinner? Should I prepare something for you?"
"No need, Ada. I need to talk to you privately. Can you step outside for a moment?" Sabrina inquired.
Sabrina had no intention of telling her grandfather about her brother's absence. His health had only recently improved, and there was no need to cause him any further distress.
Ada, on the other hand, was perplexed by Sabrina's request for a private conversation. She set down the fruit knife she had been holding and stood up, joining Sabrina as they walked outside.
Inside the ward, Parker was unaware of the impending conversation between Sabrina and Ada. He just looked awkwardly at Marcus.
This was the perfect time for Marcus to put his skills to use. His talent for connecting with people became evident, and within moments, he and Parker were engaged in a lively conversation.
Back at the entrance, Sabrina stood before Ada with a stern expression. Ada, however, was puzzled by Sabrina's demeanor and couldn't fathom what was up with her.
"Sabrina, what's going on? Is something wrong? You look rather upset," Ada inquired.
"Did you call Barry this afternoon? What did you discuss with him?" Sabrina asked, driven by a gut feeling that Ada had made the call.
Ada's facial expression momentarily froze before she adopted a calm tone. "Yes, I did call your brother. We talked about what happened lately. Why? Did something happen to him? I haven't had the chance to visit him upstairs."
Sabrina couldn't help but chuckle at Ada's feigned innocence. It was clear she was trying to hide something!
Sabrina found herself on the verge of laughter at Ada's attempt to feign innocence. It was clear she was trying to hide something!
"You can drop your act. After he picked up your call this afternoon, he left the hospital and never returned. Where have you taken him?"
Seeing Sabrina's frustration, Ada widened her eyes, "What are you talking about? How could I take your brother somewhere? We're in a relationship, for heaven's sake. Don't make wild accusations."
"Then tell me, where is the deed to my apartment?"
Though there was no concrete evidence tying Ada to these incidents, Sabrina couldn't shake the feeling that Ada was somehow involved.
At the mention of the apartment deed, Ada calmed down and flashed Sabrina a smile, saying, "If you want to know where the deed is, I'm afraid I can't help you. Why don't you ask Barry instead? You haven't even called him since all of this happened. Maybe you'll find out where he is if you call him now."
Sabrina couldn't be bothered by Ada's antics and turned to enter the ward. But before stepping inside, something crossed her mind.
"I don't know what's going on between you and Barry, but let me warn you. If you dare to cause any harm to our family, I won't let you get away with it."
"Sabrina, you're taking this way too seriously. How could I possibly do such a thing?" Ada responded.
Sabrina paid Ada no more attention and entered the ward.
Inside, Parker and Marcus were engaged in a lively conversation. Upon seeing Sabrina enter alone, Parker inquired, "Where's Ada? Why didn't she come in with you?"
"She had something to attend to. Grandpa, did Barry come here today to visit you?" Sabrina asked.
When Barry's name was mentioned, Parker's smile faded. "I haven't seen him at all. It's been days since he even called me."
Parker was tempted to reveal the truth about his grandson, but he decided to keep it under wraps, especially with Marcus in the room.
"Alright, you two can chat for a while. I'll give Barry a call. I haven't seen him yet today." Sabrina smiled and left the ward. She wasn't ready to break the news to Parker. She was sure her grandpa wouldn't be able to take it.
