Chapter 69 A Wealthy Guy

Curtis knew that spinning such a lie would be easily exposed, so he involved Victor once again without hesitation. Preoccupied with work in his office, Victor sneezed twice in quick succession. He rubbed his nose, feeling a sudden discomfort. "Clearly you've been up to no good, and now you're paying for it with sneezes," Marcus jeered, laughing heartily from the sofa. Victor rolled his eyes, thinking, 'The only bad thing I've done is assist Curtis with his charades.' He guessed the sneezing fit was somehow connected to something Curtis was saying to Sabrina. Why else would the sneezes strike so unexpectedly? Marcus, driven by his ever-present curiosity, chimed in, "We've got no other plans tonight. How about we drop by your villa, have a bite, and check on the lovebirds?" Marcus was eager to stir the pot. He had nearly slipped up and disclosed his own identity in front of Sabrina, which only piqued his interest in when she would uncover Curtis' true identity. Being childhood friends, Victor caught on to Marcus's intent immediately. "Be careful," he cautioned. "Sabrina is a strong-willed woman. If she learns her marriage is built on lies, she won't hesitate to end it." Marcus dismissed the caution with a nonchalant shrug. 'Built on lies? It's just a small white one,' he thought to himself. "Even if Sabrina’s a strong-willed woman as you’ve mentioned, remember that her decisions don't directly affect us. We aren't the ones concealing our identities. At most, we're unwilling accomplices!" Marcus' stance had evolved over time, yet his observant gaze remained unchanged. "You make a fair point. Let’s head out then," Victor agreed, ready to embark on their impromptu visit. They reached their destination swiftly and found, to their delight, that everyone was at home. Surprisingly, Ada was also present. Victor and Marcus paused upon seeing her, shared a knowing look, and snickered as they brainstormed a plausible reason to talk to Curtis. As for Ada, her eyes widened at the sight of Victor. She had never met him before, and and his sleek, expensive suit, caught her attention. Her eyes shifted to Marcus, who also looked stylish, though without recognizable branding. Next to a man in such fine attire, she assumed, 'He must be wealthy too.' After a careful calculation, Ada realized that both of these men must be very wealthy. The more she thought about it, the more it made sense to her. Sabrina found the whole situation puzzling. Why would Ada be curious about Victor's identity? "I was just asking out of curiosity, since I've never seen them before and they seem close to you. It's not a big deal if you'd rather not say," Ada remarked casually. Sabrina's expression remained neutral, devoid of even a polite smile. If she had already identified them as friends, why the need for further inquiry? She preferred to keep Ada in the dark. "They're probably Curtis' colleagues. By the way, how are you managing living solo in my apartment? Found a place yet?" Sabrina deftly redirected the conversation towards Ada's living situation. Unsurprisingly, Ada showed a look of discomfort. "I've been searching but finding a good place these days is difficult. The houses I've seen are either overpriced or in bad locations. So, I was wondering if I could temporarily stay here with you?" Initially, Ada had not considered this. However, seeing Victor, adorned in such refined attire, her curiosity was piqued. It seemed logical to her that if Victor was rich, the other two men were likely well-off too. Potentially, staying here could offer her opportunities beyond her initial expectations. Sabrina had initially been contemplating how to pry some information out of Ada and was taken aback when Ada voiced a desire to stay. It caught her a little off guard. "I can't promise you that. We're here just for the time being ourselves. Once our own apartment issues are resolved, we'll be moving back. What's the deal with your ex-boyfriend? There's been no update from the police, and my brother's medical expenses still need to be settled," Sabrina said, disguising her probing with a layer of complaints while closely watching Ada's response. "He's a wealthy guy, but I suspect he's not as wealthy as your husband. His friends here seem quite impressive too," Ada replied. 'Why does the conversation keep circling back to them?' Sabrina then realized something else was amiss. Ada's comment seemed overly straightforward. "Why are you so fixated on them? I hardly know them myself. It hasn't been long since I married Curtis, so I'm not acquainted with all his friends. It would be rude to inquire further," Sabrina replied, her face showing a hint of annoyance. Realizing her mistake, Ada chuckled and said, "You're right, I shouldn't pry. But could I not stay here at all? If I rent somewhere else, my ex might find me, which could cause problems. And isn't your grandfather about to be discharged? I could help with his care, particularly when you're at work during the day." 'For the sake of staying here, she certainly knows how to make a case for herself,' Sabrina thought to herself.
