Chapter 55 How Does She Know the Big Boss?
Victor couldn't believe that Curtis would task him with resolving this minor issue. No boss in their right mind would get involved in such petty matters. Victor was certain that Curtis was deliberately trying to make things difficult for him.
"Don't push it too far, Curtis. It's your wife we're talking about, and you want me to deal with it? This is going too far!"
Victor struggled to express his frustration, and his words were reduced to "going too far."
However, Curtis didn't seem to be affected. He simply nodded and said, "I expect this matter to be resolved by the end of the day."
What?! He even set a time limit to get the job done?!
Fine! It's not like he had any other choice. He turned and left, determined to deal with the situation, though he was not pleased about it.
Throughout the morning, the rumors continued to escalate and become increasingly outlandish.
Sabrina had already gained notoriety within the company due to her previous involvement with Aaron. Now, her identity was so well-known that people recognized her without needing to see photos of her.
Sabrina couldn't walk anywhere in the company building without encountering strange and curious gazes from her colleagues. The employees in the public relations department were the most judgmental, and their glares could cut through steel.
However, Sabrina remained unperturbed because she was confident that the truth would come to light in due course.
"Some people are quite remarkable; they mess up a major company deal and feel no remorse whatsoever," one person remarked.
"Yeah, some people have messy lives, and their thick skin is quite something," another chimed in.
"I know, right? We wanted her to join the public relations department earlier, but she refused. And now, she single-handedly sabotaged the deal we'd been working so hard on. What a heartless b*tch!" someone from the PR department commented.
Some people whispered comments about Sabrina, while others were more direct and openly discussed the matter in front of her.
Sabrina listened in silence. She had initially intended to ignore the rumor, but the voices grew louder, making it impossible to pretend she hadn't heard them.
"I've heard all the comments," Sabrina calmly responded. "While you didn't mention me by name, it's obvious who you're talking about. However, can you prove that the rumor is real?"
The individuals who had been discussing the issue without naming Sabrina felt a bit exposed by her direct response. Her composed attitude left them somewhat baffled.
Was she truly confident, or was she merely indifferent to their opinions?
"Sabrina, don't get too cocky. We all know what happened, and you dare to question whether the information we've heard is true?" someone retorted, visibly annoyed.
Seeing her colleague's anger, Sabrina seized her up.
The colleague who had spoken up was well-dressed in the latest Chanel fashion and was known as the PR department's star. She had successfully secured many significant projects for the company. It was clear that her agitation stemmed from the collaboration that had fallen through.
Sabrina replied calmly, "I always believed that the PR department was full of sharp minds, but it seems you're all just mindlessly accepting hearsay. How are you different from the online trolls who mindlessly join the mob in attacking others?"
"If it wasn't you, who was it? I worked my ass off for this deal. Did you know? Did you care? Did you even think about anyone else before you went and fucked it all up?!"
In the face of such anger and frustration, Sabrina fell silent and sighed.
"I understand your frustration," Sabrina replied with a hint of sadness. "However, whether you believe it or not, I have limited involvement in this matter. Someone else is responsible for sabotaging the deal. I understand that my words alone may not convince you, but the truth will come to light eventually."
Her colleague was unconvinced. Without any proof, Sabrina's words held no value.
Seeing that there was nothing more she could say, she turned away from the discussion and handed her colleague an attendance record form. "You can fill out this form, which is for your next month's attendance records. I need to get back to work now."
She was tired of trying to explain herself. Some would naturally trust her, while others never would.
As Sabrina walked away, some colleagues were left with puzzled expressions. They couldn't fathom how she managed to maintain her composure amidst this escalating scandal. The rumor mill continued to churn.
As she walked away, she coincidentally bumped into Victor.
Whispers and hushed conversations filled the air, but the moment they noticed their big boss, the voices suddenly ceased.
"Why are you here? I've been searching for you everywhere. Steven wants to apologize to you. Would you consider accepting his apology?" Victor greeted Sabrina with an air of familiarity.
Victor's casual tone baffled those who witnessed the interaction. "What's going on? How does Sabrina know the big boss?" Their perplexed expressions spoke volumes.
Sabrina, unsure of why Victor had appeared in front of her, felt the weight of stares from her colleagues. Some were good, while most of them were negative.
Dealing with this situation, on top of the unresolved collaboration issue, left her feeling overwhelmed.
"He hasn't done anything to me. Instead of Victor apologizing to me, it would be more appropriate if the actual troublemaker apologized," Sabrina suggested.
Victor considered it seriously, nodding in agreement. "You're right. Our company is clearly harboring some bad apples. I'll have Felicia come and apologize to you. I've also investigated her, and she's been involved in similar situations like this more than once."
Felicia? Who was that?
Everyone was befuddled by the sudden introduction of an unfamiliar character named "Felicia" and what "similar situations like this" might imply.
Sabrina paused, her thoughts tangled in the complexity of last night's events.
"I believe the company will handle this matter well. Thank you, Boss. If there's nothing else, I'll get back to work," she said to Victor, addressing him as "boss."
She wanted to remind him to maintain the decorum of their professional setting. Speaking to her so casually would only add to the confusion and possibly give birth to more gossip.
Victor nodded in response. "Go ahead. You can rest assured that the company will provide you with a satisfactory response."
Sabrina couldn't muster a smile.
She was feeling far from reassured. She was now deeply entangled in the web of rumors, walking a thin line between a mysterious man and her company's boss. People were bound to draw their own conclusions.
