Chapter 54 Their Relationship Was Exposed
The next day when Sabrina went to work, she felt her colleagues' strange and judgmental looks boring into her. It felt as if she were some kind of contagious disease, and anyone who came near was destined for doom.
Sabrina was perplexed by this sudden shift in her coworkers' behavior until she walked into the office and caught Felicia's resentful gaze. That's when Sabrina understood what was happening.
It appeared that Felicia was behind the strange glances she was receiving from her colleagues. Sabrina had expected something like this to happen.
With a sigh, Sabrina took her seat.
Initially, Sharon had given her a few days off to avoid Steven. Now that Steven was no longer in the picture, Sabrina had chosen to come back to work.
Once she sat down, Nina threw a snide remark her way. "Some people are so ridiculous. They portray themselves as virtuous, but in the end, they get involved with other men, and even cause the company to lose a major contract."
Sabrina furrowed her brows, not sure what Nina was implying. Was Felicia pinning the blame on her?
Nina continued, "You think you'll get away scot-free? Let me tell you, the PR department put in a lot of effort to secure this deal, and you sabotaged it just like that. Time to start cooking up an explanation. The clock is ticking~"
"You don't have to worry about me. The one who should be concerned is the person going around spreading rumors about me. If I'm pushed too far, I'll retaliate."
Nina wasn't being discreet at all with her snide remarks. Her voice was loud enough for everyone around to hear. However, their colleagues chose not to intervene or believe the rumors, given Sabrina's good reputation. If Sabrina had shown a poor attitude in the past, they might have joined the blame game.
Hearing what Sabrina said, a grim expression surfaced on Nina's face. She was clearly not convinced of Sabrina's innocence.
"Is that so? Even if you think you're not responsible for making a huge collaboration fall through, your suspicious involvement with men has damaged the company's reputation. You can't deny that, can you?"
This was total bullocks. Sabrina glanced at Nina in disbelief.
Sabrina didn't want to confront Nina, especially since Nina had no real connection to the situation. The problem lay between her and Felicia. Nevertheless, Nina had chosen to involve herself.
However, she noticed that many others around were waiting for her to respond, so she did.
"What do you mean? If you want to talk about someone tarnishing the company's reputation, perhaps you should look in the mirror."
Nina's face darkened with anger. She had made a lot of effort to bury her scandalous stories with Aaron, and now her reputation was at stake again.
She had always been aware that some people's preconceived notions couldn't be changed with just a few words. Especially with the evidence against her, she knew it would be even more challenging to clear her name.
Nina had no choice but to back down. She glared at Sabrina, feeling the weight of embarrassment from the many pairs of eyes around her. "Just wait and see. You can't escape the consequences of your actions. Stop pretending you don't have any dirt on you. Sooner or later, everything you've done will come to light, and I'll be right here to watch you burn!"
Sabrina couldn't be bothered with Nina's taunts; she knew Nina was just trying to provoke her.
The rumor spread quickly. Sharon was shocked when she heard about it and immediately called Sabrina into her office to inquire about the situation.
Meanwhile, another person who learned of the rumor was Victor. He had regretted lying about being Curtis's boss just to show off. Now he had to show up at the office daily, fearing that Sabrina would discover his deception.
Upon arriving at the office that morning, Victor overheard an intriguing rumor about Sabrina and rushed to Curtis's desk. "Why are you still sitting here working? Do you know the entire company is in an uproar?"
Curtis continued to work, not even bothering to look at Victor. "If you have nothing to do, then go back to work. After all, you're my boss now, and bosses shouldn't be idle."
Victor was determined to share the news about Sabrina's situation. "I'm not talking about work. I came to tell you that your relationship with Sabrina has been exposed!"
Curtis's hands stopped as he raised an eyebrow and frowned. He looked at Victor as if trying to determine if he was joking or telling the truth.
"I'm not joking. Everyone in the company is talking about Sabrina and some mystery man, and how she ruined the company's deal because of him. You were there yesterday with her when it happened, weren't you? You called me right after to tell me the deal was off. So, am I wrong to guess that your relationship is exposed?"
Victor presented his argument coherently and confidently, leaving no room for doubt. He believed that Curtis and Sabrina's relationship was now public knowledge, even though the nature of the exposure wasn't what Curtis had in mind.
Curtis couldn't help but laugh at the irony of the situation.
It seemed like Victor had a different interpretation of "exposed" than he did.
"Alright, since you're aware of the situation, why don't you go ahead and resolve it? If you fail, I'll show you what it's like to be a boss." Curtis threatened subtly, reminding Victor of his new position and responsibilities.
Victor felt dumbfounded. Why did he have to create trouble for himself? He could have just kept quiet, but now he was facing the consequences of his nosiness.
"Why do I have to solve this problem? She is your wife, so it's your problem to deal with, not mine."
Curtis nodded in agreement. "You're absolutely right. But, now you are my boss, and false rumors about your beloved employees are circulating throughout the company. Shouldn't you, as a boss, step in to address the issue?"
