Chapter 18 The Scumbag Causes Trouble
Aaron had come looking for trouble.
After spending several days detained at the police station, he was finally released. And the very first thing he did upon release was to rush to Sabrina's workplace, seeking to stir up trouble.
He believed all his misfortunes stemmed from Sabrina's actions. A minor incident, where Sabrina had not even been seriously hurt, had resulted in his incarceration.
They had been together for a long time, and even if the love had faded, the bond they shared should not have led to such an outcome.
Thus, without a second thought, Aaron caused a ruckus in Sabrina's office building, hoping to draw her out.
Sharon simply relayed the situation to Sabrina, but the latter felt deeply embarrassed. It was working hours now. Instead of focusing on company matters, Sharon had to deal with Aaron's antics.
"I'm truly sorry, Ms. Sharon," Sabrina responded promptly, her tone resolute, "I'll make sure the receptionist gets rid of him promptly in the future. This will never happen again."
It was Sabrina's pragmatism that had contributed to her swift promotions within the company. However, swift promotions did not necessarily equate to her being strong in other aspects. For instance, her physical strength was quite lacking.
After passing on the task to Sabrina, Sharon returned to her office.
Sabrina paused for a moment to regain her composure, then stormed toward the elevator and descended to the ground floor. Perhaps it was fate's design, but the moment she exited the elevator, she witnessed Curtis accidentally spill tea on someone.
"You all know Sabrina is my girlfriend, right? She works in the administration department! How dare you keep me here and risk offending her? I'm warning you. She's on the rise. Get on her bad side now, and you might find yourselves forever stuck at the reception desk!" Aaron's voice echoed loudly.
A chuckle escaped Sabrina's lips upon hearing this. While those in the know were aware she was just an administrative staff member, to outsiders, Aaron's claim made it seem like she was in charge of the whole branch.
With swift strides, Sabrina approached Aaron, and without hesitation, slapped him across the face. The impact left Aaron dazed.
"Have you lost your mind? How dare you hit me?" Aaron spat, his anger apparent.
Having spent time in jail had stripped away Aaron's facade. Gone was the gentleman he once pretended to be. Now, his true colors shone through, revealing him to be nothing more than a hooligan.
"Why shouldn't I slap you? Don't you think you had it coming?" Sabrina retorted.
Many people in the company were familiar with Sabrina's relationship status; some had even harbored feelings for her in the past. However, upon learning that she was taken, they respectfully distanced themselves and offered their silent blessings. Moreover, they were acquainted with Aaron.
When Sabrina and Aaron were together, he occasionally visited the office and always portrayed their relationship as deeply loving. The office had buzzed with tales of their enviable romance. So, witnessing the previously affectionate couple having a public argument here at the company was undeniably shocking.
Aaron glared menacingly at Sabrina. If not for the audience surrounding them, he might have thrown her to the ground and given her the thrashing he believed she deserved. Only seeing her hurt could alleviate his pent-up rage.
"I came here to get an explanation from you," Aaron's voice dripped with accusation. "You've been sneaking around with another man behind my back. Yet you assaulted me when confronted. Do you think I've been too lenient with you all this time?"
Sabrina couldn't help but recall the saying about how the offender is often the first to complain. It had never occurred to her that she would be on the receiving end of such audacity.
It was Aaron who had instigated everything. Yet now, he was playing the victim and placing all blame squarely on her.
Many of those present were not aware of the full story, but having known Aaron as a good man, they instinctively felt Sabrina was the guilty one. Condemning glances were directed at her, as if she had committed the most heinous of sins.
Ignoring the judgmental eyes, Sabrina spoke up. "Do you really want to talk about what happened?"
"Yes, I do! I went to our home, found a stranger there, and because of him, you had me arrested! If you don't give me a satisfactory explanation, I'm not leaving!"
Aaron was resorting to a rather juvenile strategy, creating a public spectacle. Even if others sided with him, his audacious behavior sharply contradicted the polished image he had once projected.
The recent stint in jail and a brutal altercation had left their marks, evident from the noticeable weight he had lost in just a few days. He squarely blamed Sabrina for his predicament.
Maintaining her composure, Sabrina asked, "Would you care to explain how you and my best friend Nina ended up in bed together?" She willingly brought Nina into the spotlight, as the cheating was a consensual act by both parties. Since the deed had been done, they might as well bear the shame together.
Sabrina was past the point of holding back.
"What nonsense are you spewing? I only see her as a sister. I have no romantic involvement with her. You're just being paranoid!" Aaron retorted, but his defensive reaction seemed suspicious.
Sabrina responded with a mocking laugh, "Do you want to see the evidence?"
