Chapter 177 Ada's Past

The police's call to Barry made it evident that the situation was serious. But how could Ada, who was perfectly fine earlier, suddenly fall ill? "You guys go ahead and have dinner. I'll go check on her," Barry said hastily. Despite just having removed his cast today and not being completely healed, he rushed outside in a stumbling manner. His legs weren't fully recovered yet, so he had to stop after a few steps, which made Sabrina anxious. However, with Gina at home, she couldn't leave her alone and thus had to let Barry go alone. As Sabrina fretted, Curtis took off his apron and patted Sabrina's shoulder, saying, "Don't worry. I'll go check on him." With Curtis going, Sabrina felt at ease. At least Barry wouldn't do anything foolish with Curtis around. "Barry may seem carefree, but he's deeply emotional. Regardless of Ada's past actions or any deceit, Barry has genuine feelings for her. Please try to stop him if he goes overboard. I'm afraid he might agree to anything in the heat of the moment," Sabrina cautioned Curtis. Curtis, understanding Barry's character, nodded seriously. Both Barry and Sabrina were similar in being emotionally invested in things. Curtis chased after Barry; after all, Barry's leg wasn't fully healed yet, so he wouldn't be able to go too far on foot. It was enough for him to get into a car and drive. After Barry and Curtis left, Sabrina became particularly worried. She was absent-minded in the kitchen, and suddenly, she heard the sound of a bowl falling to the ground nearby, startling her. Turning, she saw Marcus looking embarrassed. "I'm starting to suspect that you two didn't come here to cook but to destroy the kitchen. Alright, you should leave. Let me handle the cooking. You two really aren't suited for this," Sabrina sighed. Since moving in, Curtis always received complaints about his cooking. Despite his efforts to learn, some people seemed naturally unable to cook. No matter how hard Curtis tried, his meals were always a disaster. Curtis didn't believe he was a terrible cook. On the contrary, he had this inexplicable confidence that he could definitely prepare a good meal. He believed he was capable of anything, including cooking. But the reality was, he just couldn't cook. No matter how competent he was in other areas, cooking seemed like an impossible task for him. The similarity between Marcus and Curtis was apparent in their inability to cook. Both struggled in the kitchen, resulting in a messy afternoon. Sabrina couldn't help but sigh at the state of her kitchen, feeling like they had destroyed it. "And neither of you is allowed into my kitchen again. After eating, both of you better get down to cleaning!" Sabrina said irritably to Marcus. Marcus, of course, wasn't pleased deep down. Unlike Curtis, he actually knew how to cook. However, with the mess they made in the kitchen, he understood why Sabrina was angry. So, feeling guilty, he begrudgingly agreed with Sabrina's decision. * As expected, upon arriving at the police station, it was just as Sabrina had anticipated. Barry, in a state of immense anxiety, rushed forward and grabbed the police officer's arm, expressing his desire to understand what had happened to Ada. He insisted that he would cooperate in any way necessary, even offering financial assistance if Ada needed medical treatment. Curtis, standing nearby, was taken aback by this reaction. He now understood why Sabrina had warned him before leaving. It turned out that Barry was still pretty attached to Ada. Despite being deceived of his money, Barry was still rushing to help Ada without considering if he even had the means to do so. Not only Curtis but even the police officers were baffled by Barry's reaction. Despite their attempts to calm him down, Barry was too agitated to listen. He couldn't focus on what the police were saying, continuously insisting that he could provide money for Ada's treatment. Finally, Curtis couldn't take it anymore. He pushed Barry aside and clarified his identity and their purpose to the police officers. Seeing someone reliable, the officers were visibly relieved. "This matter doesn't actually require your intervention. However, there's something we need to inform you about. It's related to Ada's past, and she asked us to inform you about it, which is why we called you," the officer clarified. In truth, Ada had no connection with them. Even if he applied for medical parole, there was no need for their involvement. Still, if someone was willing to help, the police wouldn't object. Barry, now slightly calmer, realized that their family's financial situation wasn't as flexible as before. Concerning Ada's situation, even if he wanted to contribute financially, he needed Sabrina's consent first. Seeing Barry's subdued state, Curtis knew he had calmed down. Curtis wasn't particularly interested in meddling in Ada's affairs. He had come here only because of Barry and Sabrina. Curtis had already learned about Ada's past and what she was involved in. "What do you think?"Curtis asked. Ultimately, it was Barry's decision. Both he and Sabrina seemed indifferent to any matter concerning Ada. However, Iif Barry decided to intervene, they would need to consider their next steps. Barry was taken aback by the realization that he still had a voice in the matter. He stayed silent for a moment, casting a glance at the police officer, unable to shake off his lingering concerns.
