Chapter 176 Falling Ill
Sabrina accompanied Barry to the hospital for a checkup. His recovery was good, and he could finally have his cast removed. The doctor praised his young and healthy body, and even implied that a bit more rest wouldn't do any harm.
Barry was delighted by the news, and he kept boasting about his robust health all the way back home to Sabrina. However, one stern look from Sabrina was enough to silence him. Despite being slightly frightened by his sister's expression, Barry remained quite pleased.
"Okay, okay, enough of your bragging. What's there to be so proud of? If you're in such tip-top condition, how did you end up in the hospital in the first place? Also, remember our earlier discussion. Someone wants to buy my apartment. Do you want to come with me to take a look? If everything's alright, we'll have to sign the contract. As for the money you owe, should I help you find another lawyer?"
Sabrina hadn't mentioned it with Barry earlier, as Daniel and Parker were at home. She didn't want them to worry about it.
She did mention it to Curtis, who suggested they should decide as siblings; he would respect any decision they made.
Barry was taken aback when he heard that the apartment would be sold so soon. He recalled how thrilled his sister was when she first bought the house. Now, having to part with it might be a source of deep reluctance for her.
Guilt overwhelmed him; if only he had been more responsible, Sabrina wouldn't have to face such distress.
Barry regretted his past actions, realizing how much he had upset his sister. And yet, now he had to rely on her to resolve these ensuing matters.
"If you've decided to sell the house, you can go ahead, but I'll handle the debt. I'm sure I can repay it. Didn't you hear what my brother-in-law said? He mentioned I have the capability. Once I've repaid the money, I'll buy you a new house.” Barry chuckled.
Seeing Barry's demeanor, Sabrina paused for a moment, realizing it wasn't too bad after all.
Despite her brother occasionally being unreliable, most times Barry was a good person. He might have gone overboard earlier, but now things were alright, and she didn't need to worry too much.
"It's not a big deal, really. If it can be resolved, good. If not, we'll let it be," Sabrina said, not finding the situation particularly troublesome. If they could resolve it, that would be ideal, but if not, she wouldn't dwell on it too much.
Originally, Sabrina had intended to ask Finnick to help Barry after selling the apartment. However, considering their previous conflict, she found it difficult to bring up the matter. Therefore, she had to find another lawyer, and perhaps Curtis could help.
"Ah, forget it. You don't need to worry about this matter. You're my younger sister; theoretically, it should be me taking care of this. Let's go. I earned some money recently; how about I treat you to a good meal?" Barry suggested.
Seeing Barry returning to his usual self, Sabrina felt relieved.
However, she gave him a teasing glance. “Now that you're feeling better, you can't sit still at home, can you? Be a good boy and go home, get more rest. Forget about treating me; you should save the money. Treat me another time. Besides, we have guests coming over today."
Barry wasn't informed of the guests coming over. He couldn't help but feel his presence at home was being overlooked.
"The person coming today is a colleague who helped me a lot at work, so I invited her over," Sabrina explained, noticing Barry's confusion.
Barry nodded, and they bought some groceries before heading home. When they arrived at the door, Gina coincidentally arrived too.
Upon seeing Sabrina's message about the location of her house, Gina expressed her suspicion. The area seemed to be for the wealthy.
"Tell me, are you some rich heir? You're living in such a luxurious area! If you have so much money, why work?" Gina questioned Sabrina. If Sabrina had such wealth and a large house, why bother working?
Sabrina found it amusing how Gina perceived her as a wealthy person, but in reality, there was a significant difference between her and an actual rich individual.
"No, no, I'm renting this house from a friend. Their family is wealthy, so they offered to rent it to us at a lower price. Our family is quite large, and the previous house we lived in is about to be sold," Sabrina clarified, but Gina was still somewhat skeptical.
"Don't joke with me. Even renting in this area costs a fortune. The money from selling your old house would cover rent for several months," Gina remarked, finding it unbelievable.
Even with a friend's favor, such a low rent was unlikely.
Sabrina blinked, deciding not to explain further. She knew that even if she explained, Gina might not believe her. In fact, if she hadn't experienced this herself, she wouldn't have believed that the house could be rented at such a low price.
Sabrina was aware that the reason they got this house so inexpensively was all due to Curtis.
They walked into the villa; Parker and Daniel were seated on the couch chatting, and noises of clattering dishes echoed from the kitchen. Sabrina always had a bad feeling whenever she heard that sound.
Quickly settling Gina, Sabrina rushed into the kitchen, only to find Curtis and Marcus cooking. The sight of these two cooking made Sabrina's heart skip a beat. Were they really cooking or demolishing the place?
Before Sabrina could say anything, Barry stumbled in, his face pale.
"What's wrong?" Sabrina asked, worriedly looking at Barry.
"The police station just called me. Ada is sick," Barry revealed.
The news was unexpected, leaving everyone shocked. Ada had only been in for a few days, and it was surprising to hear she had fallen ill. It was difficult not to suspect that something was amiss.
