Chapter 663 You’re The Only One Here

"It's not that..." Zayn powerlessly pleaded for himself. There were a lot of words stuck in his throat that he did not manage to say. That woman still had not been arrested yet. The police could not find her. Even Zayn's people could not track her whereabouts. Zayn still had some scruples, so there were many things he could not say. Lindsey looked at Zayn and calmed her emotions. She clenched her fingers and her tone unconsciously became heavier as she said, “I’m a person too. I have feelings. Have you ever thought about how I’d feel and how sad I’d be?” She exhaled heavily again as if the past frustrations that were cooped up in her heart would dissipate. "Also, you just watched me hate you, blame you, and treat you like that. Zayn Guggenheim, don't you know how to defend yourself?" Speaking of this, Lindsey suddenly turned her head away and could not hold back any longer. Her voice cracked, but she tried her best to make herself seem less sad. "Don’t you feel bad? Or do you think you’re so great and noble that you feel so happy to see me misunderstand you and blame you for everything? Don’t even tell me that it’s for my own good because you don’t even know what’s good for me!" As she said that, Lindsey’s shoulders shook. She looked hurt as she said, "Do you know how scared I was when I heard that something happened to you? It’s not just because I was afraid that Dezi won’t have a dad anymore..." She suddenly turned to look at Zayn with her teary face and stretched out her index finger to point at her chest. "It’s because you’re the only one here. If something happens to you, it’ll also die with you… Zayn Guggenheim, how do you expect me to live by myself when I know you’re risking your life?!" Zayn never expected this confession. He looked at the place where Lindsey's finger was pointing, which was at the third rib on the left side of her chest. It was her heart that kept beating all day and night. She had escaped death a few times, but she could not escape this man's compulsion. Zayn's chest that was filled with affection for her surged in an instant. He stepped forward, opened his arms, and embraced Lindsey tightly. "I’ll give you an explanation." He gently kissed the top of her head. His eyes were sore. "It's all my fault. Give me a little more time, okay?" After he settled this matter and found the two people that Lindsey had been missing, he would be able to give her a satisfactory explanation. Lindsey's body trembled gently, but she did not shake nor nod her head. In the living room, Sieben had been observing the situation on the balcony through the glass. When she saw that scene, she excitedly covered her eyes with her hands, but left a small slit through her fingers and could not help but take a peek. "Grandma, you’re right! They’re hugging now!" It was not enough for her to just watch and wanted Mrs. Wendy to listen to her live commentary. After saying that, Sieben looked at Dezi, who was on the side, and said, "Hey, I think Dezi’s wish might come true soon!" Mrs. Wendy smiled at Sieben’s quirks. "You know what his wish is?" Sieben proudly lifted her head and craned her neck like a swan. "Of course! Dezi’s biggest wish is to have both his dad and mom at home." When Mrs. Wendy heard this, she sighed slightly. Even if Mrs. Wendy was usually biased towards Zayn, she really could not help him this time with the way he handled this situation. ‘He deserves to suffer a little.’ Zayn and Lindsey embraced each other in silence. Suddenly, Zayn's phone rang and broke their harmony. Lindsey’s cries gradually faded. When she saw that Zayn did not intend to answer his phone, she pushed him away and said with a nasal tone that was a little hoarse, “Answer your phone first.” Zayn sighed gently, let her go, and turned around to answer the phone. Lindsey did not know who called. Zayn only spoke two words before he hung up, and when he turned around again, his face was glum. He reached out and wiped away Lindsey's tears. His lips moved, but he did not speak. Lindsey understood and said, "Are you busy?" Zayn nodded. "Mm, I need to deal with some urgent matters. Wait for me and I’ll give you an explanation, okay?" It must be something very important seeing the look on his face. Lindsey only felt that Zayn's gaze was so heavy with an emotion that she could not read. "Okay, go ahead then," she said. Sieben and Mrs. Wendy watched as Zayn left in a hurry and looked at each other, not knowing what had happened. When Lindsey came back in from the balcony, she still could not hide the traces of having cried even though she tried hard to cover it up. Dezi was in his room doing homework. Lindsey saw that Mrs. Wendy and Sieben were looking at her worriedly, so she waved her hand to signal that she was fine and went to the bathroom to wash her face. She looked much better afterward. Sieben and Mrs. Wendy saw her like this and did not dare to ask Lindsey what she had talked about with Zayn. Zayn said that she would give Lindsey an explanation, but Lindsey waited for three days. During her spare time, Lindsey would pay attention to the news. Ann had gone into hiding. The police searched extensively, but they still could not find her. She just seemed to have vanished into thin air. On Wednesday, it was Lindsey's birthday. Since Lindsey already promised Sieben and Dezi beforehand, Lindsey got up early to make preparations even though she was not in the mood to celebrate. She even sent an invite to Yvette and told Shaun about it. At her age, Lindsey no longer had such anticipation for her birthday compared to when she was a teenager. For her, it was just an opportunity to have a meal together as a family. "Hello." Lindsey looked at the time and picked up the phone. Dezi's baby voice came through, "Mommy! Grandma and I bought you a cake. When will you come home?" After arranging the papers spread out on the table, Lindsey stood up and said, "Mommy will be right back. Honey, why don’t you and Grandma wait for me at home?" Dezi obediently agreed. Lindsey thought of her son and looked forward to this birthday. She then walked out of the office in quick strides. Early this morning, Zayn sent a message to Lindsey, but she was still asleep then, so she only saw it when she woke up. She did not know what she felt about it. Her first reaction was that it was surprising Zayn still remembered such a minor thing. It was true that people change. Shaun left the company a while ago. Lindsey guessed that he went to pick up Yvette first, so she drove back home alone. Lindsey was still thinking about lots of things when she placed her finger on the door to her house and waited for the smart door lock to respond automatically. However, unlike before, the door did not open automatically after several seconds. It took a while for Lindsey to realize that something was wrong. She tried again, but the door would not open even though her fingerprint was recognized. "What's going on?" Lindsey stood frozen at the door.
