Chapter 662 He Doesn’t Want To Leave

During dinner, Lindsey was acting normal with Sieben and Mrs. Wendy, but she treated Zayn like he was non-existent. Zayn’s hand that was holding his fork gradually tightened, but there was nothing he could do. After eating, Lindsey wanted to guide Dezi with his homework. Although Zayn was being treated like dust, he did not want to leave because he had not figured out why Lindsey was giving him the cold shoulder. Zayn took Dezi's workbook and looked through it. Although Dezi was young, his handwriting was quite neat and cute. He was so engrossed in it when a hand suddenly shot over to him. “Give it back.” It was Lindsey. Zayn was stunned and said innocently, "I'm just taking a look." Lindsey probably had enough of him. She looked at Zayn and said in an unpleasant tone, "I know you’re just looking at it, but Dezi needs to use this book now." "Oh." Zayn handed the workbook in his hand to Lindsey. Taking advantage of Lindsey's lack of attention, he suddenly moved closer and tried to close the distance between them. When Lindsey turned her head back, she did not notice that Zayn was so close nearly dived headfirst into his embrace. Lindsey jerked back and was startled. She forgot that she was even still mad at him and subconsciously blurted out, "What the hell are you doing?" Zayn came closer to her and saw that Lindsey kept backing up. His voice was low as he said, "What's wrong with you?" Lindsey wanted to say that she was fine, but before those words got to her mouth, she felt that her actions now were as if she was throwing a tantrum with her boyfriend. This perception made Lindsey feel the chills. She swallowed back the words that almost slipped out. She felt that she had been quite hypocritical all afternoon. She was very angry and did not want to care about the man in front of her, but what problem could this solve? It would only make the people around her and herself uncomfortable. Lindsey lowered her eyelashes and said softly, “Let go of me first.” This time, Zayn was very obedient and backed away from her slightly, then sat to the side. Lindsey looked at Dezi, who was focused on his homework, then gave him a few more instructions before she got up and gestured for Zayn to follow her. The two of them went out to the balcony. Lindsey pulled the glass sliding door shut so that the people inside could see them talking but could not hear their conversation. Sieben, who pretended to be focused on watching a reality show while snacking, stretched out her neck to take a look. She saw Lindsey's eyes looking this way and immediately sat upright. She leaned against Mrs. Wendy beside her and asked in a whisper, "Grandma, are Lindsey and Zayn gonna be okay?" Mrs. Wendy was wearing a pair of old-fashioned glasses while she embroidered facing the light. Without raising her head, she filled the last bit of blank spot in the flower and bit off the thread, then whispered, "Don't worry, I think it's a good thing. Knowing Zayn, he’ll never take the initiative to say this. If so, who will know his suffering? He can’t possibly hold it in forever, right? At least now, Lindsey knows that Zayn isn’t that blind to choose that woman over her!" As she said this, she patted Sieben on the head and reassured her, “Don’t overthink it, it’s not your fault. The two of them have always been distant, so it has nothing to do with you. I even wanna thank you for telling Lindsey about it!" Mrs. Wendy was old and had brown spots and wrinkles on her hands. Her face would wrinkle when she smiled and she looked very kind and approachable. Sieben rubbed her head on Mrs. Wendy’s shoulders like a clingy kitten. On the other side, Lindsey stood towards the inside of the balcony while Zayn leaned against the railing. The sky was already dark and filled with stars. Zayn looked at Lindsey's face, which was against the light, and asked, "Now can you tell me what's wrong with you?" Lindsey repeatedly told herself that as Zayn’s ex-wife, she was not in a position to condemn him. Since he asked about it, Lindsey's voice was calm when she asked, "Why exactly did you divorce me back then?" Lindsey always asked him this more than half a year ago. Zayn did not expect to hear this question again at this moment. He was stunned for a moment and suddenly realized something, then said, "You know all about it?" "If you're talking about you going undercover for the police, sacrificing your body to get close to S.P. Corporation's President, and finally solving a big case, then yes, I know about it." Lindsey met his gaze. Her eyes were clear and frank. Zayn let out a “tsk”, but he was not too surprised and said in a low voice, "No wonder." Lindsey did not say anything else and was waiting for Zayn to continue. Zayn suddenly felt like smoking a cigarette although he was not a smoker before. However, due to his overindulgence lately, he just felt like smoking to calm his mood. However, he would never smoke in front of Lindsey, so he was silent for a moment before he said, “I didn’t sacrifice my body...” He even sounded a bit aggrieved. When Lindsey heard this, she nearly laughed in exasperation. Whether he sacrificed his body was not the point they should be dwelling on at this moment. However, Zayn clearly cared a lot about this probably because he no longer had a relationship with Ann, so he did not want to be misunderstood anymore. Thinking that Lindsey did not believe him, Zayn added, "I’ve never touched her." Zayn looked so aggrieved when he said that, so Lindsey could not help but laugh, but her expression did not change as she said, "I saw the news article where you guys were hugging each other the day she was released on bail." "I didn’t!" Zayn's face was glum and he hurriedly explained, "She jumped on me first. I pushed her away immediately after." He did not tell her that he went back to shower three times because he saw a tiny bit of joy in those eyes that were against the light. Zayn did not speak, so Lindsey was also silent. The two of them looked at each other. After a few seconds, Lindsey suddenly averted her gaze. "I tried to put myself in your shoes to think about this, and I just can’t figure out one thing." Zayn did not speak and waited for her to continue. "I can understand that you chose to do this for the greater good, for the sake of the country. I can also understand you getting engaged to Ann in order to get whatever it is you need. I can even understand you choosing to divorce me for all of this." Suddenly, Lindsey exhaled sharply and continued, “I just don’t understand why you chose to hide it from me after I asked you so many times...you even used that kind of reason for our divorce..." After saying that, Lindsey took a deep breath and closed her eyes tightly. “Zayn Guggenheim, are you afraid that I can’t keep a secret?” Zayn wanted to say "no", but this word was stuck in his throat. "Or are you afraid that if I knew the truth, I’d mess up your plans?"
