Chapter 633 Looking Like The Man Of The House
Zayn had just woken up and had a sleepy voice. He was wearing a white bathrobe that Mrs. Wendy dug out from somewhere. The robe was also half-open, revealing his well-defined pecs. He had one arm on the doorframe and the hair on his forehead covered his eyebrow, but it did not conceal the drowsiness in his eyes, which made them look even darker than usual.
His voice suddenly got stuck after he saw the man standing in the doorway. The haziness in his eyes vanished in an instant.
A hint of gloom flashed in his eyes. Zayn stood upright and straightened out his robe. He took a few steps forward with a mean and scornful look on his face, then casually said, “I was just wondering who came to disturb my peace so early in the morning.”
Seeing the way he was dressed, Arthur felt that Zayn was an eyesore who even came out of the bedroom looking like the man of the house.
When Mrs. Wendy invited Arthur to go in and take a seat, Arthur did not intend to accept her invitation thinking that Lindsey was still not awake. However, now that he saw Zayn, he suddenly swallowed the words of refusal. Instead, he smiled gently at Mrs. Wendy and said, "Sure, thank you."
After saying that, Arthur walked in looking at Zayn’s glum face.
Arthur sat down slowly and watched as Zayn's face darkened because of his presence, but he still did not feel relieved, probably because Zayn was still wearing that robe, which made Arthur feel like forcing him to get changed.
Mrs. Wendy saw how Zayn and Arthur were glaring at each other with hostility and suddenly realized that she should not have invited Arthur in. Or rather, she should not have let Arthur and Zayn bump into each other in this situation.
A certain absurd idea that had been swimming in her mind earlier became more certain.
Mrs. Wendy did not interact much with Arthur before. Her impression of this man was still stuck at the time he took Dezi away. Now that she was watching the two men confronting each other and baring their teeth like animals fighting for territory, she was a little shocked at their hostility towards each other.
However, since she had already invited Arthur in, it was too late to regret it. She was afraid that these two would get into a fight, so Mrs. Wendy decided not to go to the farmer’s market. She simply closed the door behind her and walked back into the house.
Mrs. Wendy turned to Arthur, who was sitting on the sofa, and said in a slightly detached voice, "Mr. Arthur, please make yourself comfortable. I’ll prepare breakfast first."
She just felt like going back in time to bite off her own tongue. ‘How did I even invite this man in?’
It was too late to regret. After that, Mrs. Wendy looked at Zayn dotingly like he was a child.
“Why didn’t you get dressed before coming out? I’ve already washed your clothes. Go ahead and get changed, then eat something before you leave.”
Mrs. Wendy had her back to Arthur and kept giving Zayn a look that told him not to be impulsive.
Zayn nodded gently, then glared at Arthur before he turned around and went to get changed. His presence here at this time was already the biggest blow to Arthur, so there was no need to fight over words.
Thus, when Lindsey woke up and saw this scene. She had never been more remorseful about waking up so early until today.
She still did not know that these two men just happened to bump into each other and that was why their atmosphere was so tense.
Lindsey thought to herself as she got dressed, ‘If only I’d woken up earlier than Zayn and kicked Arthur out before he was invited in, then it wouldn't have been as awkward as this.’
‘What was I wearing?! And Zayn's reaction was just too humiliating!’
Lindsey wished she was a turtle so she could hide in her shell and would not have to face such embarrassment. Unfortunately, she could not hide in the room all day.
After getting dressed and making sure that she looked decent, Lindsey pulled her bedroom door open.
Zayn and Arthur were sitting in the living room, each occupying one corner of the sofa. They did not look pleased, but fortunately, they did not look too miserable either.
Lindsey did not know why she felt guilty. She avoided Zayn's gaze and looked right into Arthur's somewhat burning gaze as soon as she turned her head.
She forced herself to sit between the two of them while she pinched the corner of her long sleeves. She asked, "Why did you come over all of a sudden?"
Her attitude towards Arthur was not bad, but it was not great either. When Lindsey first saw him in her house, she was surprised and somehow a little repulsed for a moment.
That was because her wariness towards Arthur had never been lifted.
In particular, waking up to find a person she did not welcome sitting in her home was not a pleasant feeling. Lindsey just felt annoyed that she did not notice it as soon as she woke up.
Arthur was used to getting the cold treatment from Lindsey. There was an indistinct emotion in his eyes as he said softly in his slow and steady voice, "I came back this morning and heard that you were attacked last night, so I came to take a look."
He was unaware of the misunderstanding his words could cause. Lindsey raised her eyebrows. "You got someone to follow me?"
Next to her, Zayn had the same suspicions, but for some reason, he did not ask the question and only watched as Arthur was being questioned by Lindsey.
"No!" Arthur hurriedly said and looked serious, "How can you think like that? Of course, I didn’t get someone to follow you, I just never got to tell you that I’ve moved here. Last night, my men saw the police cars and were worried about Aksel’s safety, so they checked it out and didn’t cross the line."
Arthur sometimes spoke in such a formal tone probably due to his upbringing, which made him sound very solemn.
Lindsey gave him a deep look. "Just like that?"
Arthur nodded his head and said seriously, "Yes, that’s all."
Lindsey was rendered a little speechless. She pursed her lips and did not know whether she should believe Arthur's words. "Nothing happened. It was a false alarm. Sorry to bother you."
Zayn sat on the other side while he crossed his arms and watched the exchange between these two people. He really looked like the man of the house.
Lindsey looked at the time and stood up, then chased them out without hesitation. “It’s getting late and I have some things to settle, so I can’t entertain you both.”
After she said that, she walked over to the door and gestured for the two men to leave.
Arthur was stunned by Lindsey’s bluntness. Even Zayn, who had been sitting quietly on the side, looked a little dumbfounded.
