Chapter 189 We’re Just Business Partners

Lindsey was in a drunken blur, but she showed her true heart. She was not even aware of how much she hurt Shaun. At that time, Shaun went downstairs and was still in the neighborhood when he bumped into the girl who was walking towards him. "Shaun? Why are you here?" Yvette Wendell was surprised and she unconsciously stroked her hair. Yvette was wearing a pink sweatsuit and had her hair tied up into a double bun, looking like a teenage girl. Shaun's brisk steps paused for a moment. He did not expect to run into Yvette here. On second thought, Yvette also lived here, so it was normal to run into her. However, he was vexed and his face was glum. Thinking about how Yvette liked to cling to him, he looked irritated and coldly said, "I had something to do." The cheerfulness on Yvette's face wilted. Although Shaun was impatient with her, most of the time, he would refuse her gently. He was never like this, which made him seem so unapproachable. Yvette spoke, but the words came out rather dry. "What's wrong with you? I didn't provoke you." She spoke with a natural upward tone, which sounded alluring and unbelievably aggrieved, but Shaun was not moved. "Ms. Wendell, I don't have time to play any games with you today, so please excuse me." After he said that, Shaun went around Yvette to leave, but Yvette held his arm and was reluctant. “What happened? Who made you mad?” "What does this have anything to do with you?" Shaun finally could not hold in his emotions and roared at her. Right after the words came out and seeing Yvette's dumbfounded look, he somehow felt sorry for her and spoke stiffly, "Ms. Wendell, we’re just business partners, so you don’t have to care so much about my personal life. It’s late. You should go back early." He tried to pull away Yvette's hand, but she was holding onto him tightly and simply did not want to let go. After hearing his words, her expression did not change for the better, but tears instantly welled up in her eyes and she looked very pitiful. "Why are you so fierce? I was just concerned about you. You didn’t say anything, so how would I know why you’re angry? How would I know what I can do to make you happy?" Yvette was crying and yelling. Her eyes were sparkling as she looked at Shaun unblinkingly, looking naive and oblivious, which made Shaun suddenly recall the scene earlier. He had reached out to unbutton Lindsey's shirt when the person lying on the bed suddenly murmured unconsciously and opened her eyes. At that moment, Shaun was not sure if Lindsey was awake, but she looked at him steadily for a while and her eyes landed on his outstretched hand. "Big brother." She spoke with some drunkenness. "I'm so sleepy. I'll do my homework later. Let me sleep for a little while longer." Lindsey was so drunk that she could not tell the difference between now and then, overlapping the present with a certain image from her memory. What remained the same was her trust for Shaun. She trusted him and believed that he would never do anything to hurt her. That was why she was so at ease. Shaun’s arm remained mid-air and he no longer moved. Some feelings lasted longer than love. If he retreated, their future was limitless, but one misstep could take them to a point of no return. "What's wrong? Why’d you space out?" Yvette reached out in front of Shaun and waved at him, but the man suddenly grabbed her hand. Her small palm was clutched by his long and slender fingers. Yvette froze and could not suppress the joy on her face even though she knew that this was merely his reflex. "Shaun, you held my hand! I don't care, but you must take responsibility for this." She sounded unreasonable and misinterpreted the casual touch for something else. Shaun let go of her and avoided her. He gave Yvette a look without saying anything, but the frown on his forehead was evident. This small change in Shaun’s mood was overlooked by Yvette, who was chattering incessantly to herself. In this short while, she had even thought of the name of her future child with Shaun. Her chattering voice was like a little bird, which irritated Shaun and made him feel like covering her mouth. However, the irritation he felt because of Lindsey gradually dissipated. The Guggenheim mansion. The old man, who would usually be asleep at this hour, as well as a group of servants, watched Zayn carry Lindsey while she was still crying. It was a very small voice. From time to time, she would even get a small hiccup, which sounded quite adorable. Zayn carried her upstairs, but the old man yelled, “Stop right there!” This was not much of a threat, but Zayn still obediently stopped in his tracks. "What's going on? Lindsey was fine when she went out. Why did she come back in that state?" The old man thought that Zayn had provoked Lindsey, so his tone was interrogative. "She drank too much," Zayn said briefly. He did not stop any longer, but instructed the maid, "Make a cup of hangover tea and bring it up." The old man could see that Zayn did not look well and called Quentin in from outside. "What’s going on?" Quentin put on a smiling face as he replied, "The President has been too busy during this period and neglected Young Madam, so she probably felt a little bored and drank too much. It’s fine for young people to get drunk occasionally, so don't get angry, Old Master." The old man only quietly listened and did not bother them. He just looked at Quentin so deeply until Quentin got goosebumps, then quietly asked, "Is Zayn really just busy with work these days?" Quentin almost broke out in cold sweat and thought that the old man had noticed something, but he kept his mouth sealed and replied, "Yes, he’s been busy with work. Recently, Hemera and Wilford Corporation are getting more reckless, so the President’s been busy." This was the truth, but he dared not mention a thing about Zayn deliberately fabricating scandals. The old man looked at Quentin for a moment and did not ask anything more. "It's late, so you should hurry back. Oh right, I recently met a few nice ladies who I’d like to introduce you to. I watched you and Soren grow up. It’s about time for you guys to start a family. You need someone to take care of you, so you shouldn’t just think about work all day." There was a sentence that the old man kept to himself, ‘After seeing you all settle down, I can leave this world without worries.’ When Quentin heard this, he almost stumbled, but he stood still and did not answer. After he walked out the door, he felt a tingle in his nose.
