Chapter 158: Old Friends for Many Years

Milly kept on talking even though he stayed silent. "I guess it's because your company's been having a rough time lately, so you thought of me again. I know what's on your mind. But why would you think I'd go back to a man who hurt me so badly?" Pearson suddenly sneered, "We've been together for so many years, you say you've let go, but when it comes down to it, you're still more heartless than me." Charlotte couldn't stand men like him. Everything was his fault, yet he could blame others. Their ability to be so disgusting was unmatched. At that moment, Luan had just come back from picking up the kids from kindergarten and saw the crowd gathered in front of their house, so he walked over. Charlotte saw him and immediately smiled faintly, "You're back." "Yeah, I'm back." Luan squinted at Pearson and asked sharply, "What are you doing here?" The kids ran into her arms, "Mom, did you miss us?" Charlotte knelt down, "Of course, I missed you." Seeing Luan back, Pearson clearly toned down his arrogance from earlier. He feared this man. Offending him would only make matters worse for his company. Luan's eyes were filled with disgust, as if he saw something filthy. He said coldly, "Why don't you leave now? Aren't you embarrassed by what you've done?" Pearson immediately dared not say another word and left here dejectedly. Luan's arrival put an end to the commotion. Otherwise, they would have argued all night. Luan looked at Isaac in surprise, "What are you doing here?" Milly explained, "He's my boyfriend. He happened to have some work to discuss with Charlotte today, so I brought him along. It just happened that you guys could meet." Isaac seemed to treat Luan like an old friend. He smiled gently before saying, "What a coincidence, huh? He brought me here to meet his friends today, and I didn't expect his friend's husband to be you." Everyone was surprised to see how well they knew each other. The world was indeed small. Who would've thought Milly's new boyfriend would be an old acquaintance of Luan's? "You guys still know each other?" Luan nodded, "We were college classmates. He's been abroad these past few years, so although we've kept in touch, it's been a long time since we've seen each other." "Oh, I see. Then I don't have to worry." "Worry about what?" Charlotte blinked, "Worry that he's not a good person. I don't want my good friend to end up with the wrong person again. Since he's my husband's friend, I trust him." Charlotte always trusted Luan's judgment. If he didn't like someone, she wouldn't bother getting to know them either. "If he's dissatisfied, Luan naturally wouldn't bother making friends with him." "Do you have time tonight?" Isaac nodded, "Yes." Luan looked at his watch and said slowly, "Carlos will be back soon. Why don't you guys stay for dinner tonight? We can also catch up on what's been happening these past few years." Isaac didn't quite understand, "Back? Does Carlos live with you guys?" "His wife and my wife are best friends. They're always here, practically treating it like their own home, so they've been staying with us lately." "I see." They walked into the yard with arms around each other's shoulders, showing that they were indeed old friends. Milly hadn't expected that they had never mentioned this to each other before. "The world is really small." "Yeah, it is. Let's go inside, and you can stay for dinner tonight." "Okay." "You said you're back, but you didn't even tell us. That's not very friendly of you," Luan said. He had an extra bottle of wine in his hand, obviously prepared for tonight. Isaac turned to Milly not far away. There was a hint of amusement in his eyes. "Isn't there something important..." Luan shook his head helplessly. "When did you change your mind? Weren't you adamant about not getting married in this lifetime?" Isaac retorted, "Didn't you say you wouldn't get married either? Now your kids are already this big." "It's not always a good thing to have a good memory," Luan said with a smile. Isaac's lips curved into a faint smile. "Isn't Carlos the same? Didn't they both say they didn't want to get married in the beginning? Families like ours can hardly escape arranged marriages. But at least now we have the ability to choose the ones we like and not be dictated by others. That's already good enough." Luan smiled and reminisced about the past, "Yeah, it's already good enough." Their resistance to marriage back then was entirely because of this reason. They grew up in such an environment and had seen that most arranged marriages were not happy. They didn't want to live like that every day, full of arguments and scandals. They didn't want to live like that in the future. Compared to others, they were already much luckier. "Has Sophia not woken up yet?" "He's back." Isaac stood up, "I don't know if your wife's awake." Carlos had a small cake in his hand, changing his shoes at the door. When he heard someone talking, he looked up for a moment. When he saw Isaac, he hesitated visibly for a moment, feeling that this person was very familiar, and then he remembered who he was after a while. "When did you get back?" "I've been back for a while." Isaac said. Carlos almost repeated what Luan had just said to him, "You're back and didn't even say anything. Haven't seen someone like you before." Isaac felt a little embarrassed. He said in a low voice, "Aren't you busy lately? Didn't have time to catch up with you guys. Just happened to meet today..." "If we didn't meet today, I guess we would hardly have a chance to meet in this lifetime, right?" Carlos couldn't help but say. Isaac replied calmly, "How could that be? I really had important matters to attend to." Luan raised his eyebrows and gestured towards Milly, who was sitting on the sofa chatting with Charlotte, "But this is coming back to pursue love. Of course, there's no time to deal with us." Carlos smiled maliciously, "You're really a guy who prioritizes love over friendship. How come you're so open-minded now?" Isaac replied indifferently, "This matter is a long story." Carlos asked subconsciously, "Forget it, you guys are all so fickle." Isaac glanced at him faintly, "You're not the same. Didn't you get married?"
