Chapter 150 Family Gathering
Sophia said softly, "Then next time you get married, you should find a man who treats you like this. You need to experience what it's like to be in love."
Mylene lifted her tea cup and took a sip. "I'm not in a rush for that. Honestly, I quite enjoy this single life lately. I'm really afraid of going back to that life of being a housewife and raising children."
Charlotte added, "It's mainly because of the past bad experience that left you psychologically scarred. Actually, life with someone can be quite nice. You should try to accept it. You shouldn't give up on a whole forest just because you encountered a rotten tree."
"You're right about that!"
After this period of separation, Charlotte and Sophia could see that Mylene's state had indeed improved significantly.
Having someone around who constantly causes trouble can make even the most resilient person break down!
They sincerely wished Mylene smoother days ahead, hoping she never encounters someone like her ex-husband again.
The group spent a very pleasant evening together. Mylene now took charge herself, and her company had some collaborations in progress. She wanted to talk to Charlotte about it, so they agreed to meet formally at the company the next day.
Sophia joked on the side, "Now you're a complete career woman. The kids seem somewhat resentful."
"But I spend time with them on weekends, and I'm busy during weekdays," Mylene replied.
Having been through it herself, Sophia said, "Indeed, you can't manage everything perfectly. When you have children in the future, you'll understand."
Sophia smiled and gently touched her own belly. She could already imagine the scene of her children playing around with her and Carlos.
Seeing Sophia's expression as she lowered her head and smiled, they all laughed together, sensing her eagerness.
As they were chatting, Charlotte received a call from her father.
Charlotte glanced at her phone expressionlessly, then decisively hung up. However, the caller quickly dialed again, so she had no choice but to answer.
"What's up?" Charlotte asked flatly.
The voice on the other end sounded somewhat excited, "I know we were wrong last time, but we're still family after all. If you have time, come over for dinner tonight. Consider it fulfilling my duty as a father."
Charlotte glanced at her companions, her eyes full of reluctance. "Does it have to be tonight?"
Bill, sounding earnest, replied, "Yes, your aunt and I have already prepared dinner. Bring the kids and Luna along!"
Charlotte said coldly, "I understand."
Sophia, noticing Charlotte's unusual demeanor, quickly asked, "Is something wrong?"
Charlotte shook her head. "My dad wants us to come over for dinner tonight, so we might not be able to eat together."
Mylene, unaware of what was happening in their family, said, "Since that's the case, we can reschedule. He's asking you to come for dinner; you can't refuse."
Charlotte said, "Okay, then we'll have to reschedule."
Charlotte briefly explained the situation to Luna. Since they had forgiven their past mistakes, having a meal wasn't a big deal. Luna agreed without hesitation. They both took the kids and headed straight to Bill's house.
"You don't need to worry today. I'm here with you, nothing will happen," Luna said calmly.
Charlotte tightly held her hand. "With this experience, they'll surely be more careful. I don't think they have the guts to harm me further."
"Let's go."
Bill stood guiltily at the door, waiting. Seeing them enter, he walked up to them.
He even took Andy into his arms and softly asked, "Do you know who I am?"
"I know, you're my grandfather." Andy inherited Luna's poker face and replied expressionlessly.
Bill smiled contentedly and led them inside.
The smile on Martina's face was clearly forced.
Compared to making Charlotte uncomfortable, Martina was more concerned about her own status and wealth.
If Bill were to fall, where would she find such a man?
Now she was no longer a young girl. If she were twenty years younger, she wouldn't care about such things.
Aunt was preparing food on the side, her eyes full of disdain when she saw Charlotte carrying the children.
Bill and Martina changed their usual demeanor, warmly inviting them to take their seats.
Luna treated them as she would during a business deal, showing no emotion on her face.
Charlotte served the children without hesitation, ignoring the quiet atmosphere around her.
Martina reminded her, "Don't just focus on eating yourself. Encourage your husband to eat more, look at how thin he is."
"He's not a child; he can eat on his own," Charlotte said expressionlessly.
Martina acted as if she hadn't heard that, then turned to Luna and said, "This child has been spoiled by his father since he was young. If he causes you any trouble, you must be tolerant."
If it were in the past, Martina would never have spoken in such a tone. Today was truly extraordinary.
It was evident from this meal that they were trying to reconcile. It wouldn't be good for her to say anything else.
Charlotte looked up and caught Luna's gaze. "You should eat too."
Though he remained expressionless, his tone was incredibly gentle when speaking to Charlotte. "Alright."
Watching their every move, Martina couldn't help but think of her own unfortunate daughter.
She wondered what charm Charlotte possessed that made this man willingly do so much for her.
Charlotte indeed had some tactics. She had underestimated her before, which was a mistake.
It seemed she had to work harder to win Charlotte over in the future. Only then would her family improve, and they wouldn't struggle financially like they did recently.
She didn't want to live through those days again.
But it would be her daughter who suffered in the future...
Aunt shot Charlotte a sharp glance from the side. "Madam, Miss Charlotte is so disobedient, why do you still treat her with kindness?"
Martina narrowed her eyes, wondering if this woman had gone mad. Both Bill and Luna were here, how could she speak like that?
Luna was still here. How could this woman dare to bring up those past matters again? Didn't she see the situation at home in the past few days?
