Chapter 127 His Childhood Sweetheart
When Charlotte came downstairs after her bath, she heard Lu En talking on the phone.
It wasn't until she got closer that she realized it was her mother-in-law calling.
From Lu En's tone, Charlotte understood that they already knew what had happened tonight.
Both of them were extremely worried at home, and they said they would come over tomorrow to check on the children.
They also wanted to have two more people to watch over them, ensuring that the children wouldn't have any problems.
Although her two little ones hadn't spent much time with their grandparents since birth, their love for the children was no less than her own.
These peaceful days were what she had always wanted.
In the future, she must protect them well and not let those with ill intentions take advantage.
If something like last night happened again and they demanded Charlotte's life, it would be terrifying. Once was enough to scare her.
Lu En hung up the phone. "My parents are coming over tomorrow."
Charlotte was sitting on the sofa, drying her hair. "They must have been really worried tonight."
They each tucked the children into their rooms before Lu En took her to the bedroom to help her blow-dry her hair.
She was lucky. Her children were so obedient, and her husband was so considerate. She was very satisfied with her current situation.
Soon, it was the next day.
Linda and Andrew arrived early in the morning, accompanied by a girl Charlotte had never seen before.
She was very delicate-looking and seemed to be familiar with Lu En's family.
She came up to Charlotte confidently. "Hello, sister-in-law. My name is Sanila. I'm Lu En's childhood sweetheart. I just returned from abroad recently. I wanted to greet Auntie in the morning, but I found out they were in a hurry to leave, so I came here too. I also wanted to meet the children. I didn't expect that I'd been away for a few years, and Lu En is already married with children. I really didn't expect it."
Charlotte liked her appearance very much and thought she must be a lovely person. "Hello, I'm Charlotte. Our marriage did indeed happen in a hurry..."
Charlotte didn't intend to explain her past to her. Even if she was curious, Lu En's sudden appearance with two grown-up children would be puzzling.
Lu En glanced at Sanila and said calmly, "Aren't you doing well over there? Why did you suddenly decide to come back? Did you quit your job there?"
"You're asking so many questions, which one should I answer first?" Sanila frowned and glanced at Lu En.
Lu En chuckled. "Just answer them one by one."
"It's going well, but I can't stay outside forever. My parents want me to come back and take over the company. After all, I'm their only daughter, and they're getting old. They're struggling a bit, so I came back."
"I see. It's good to come back."
On the other side, Linda gently patted Charlotte's shoulder. "You don't have to blame yourself too much. Lu En had similar experiences when he was young, but fortunately, nothing serious happened."
Charlotte was somewhat shocked. "How could..."
Linda softened her tone and said gently, "Families like ours are usually targeted. As long as the children are safe, it's okay."
Hearing Linda's words, it seemed that Lu En hadn't told her who took the children last night.
This also saved her some face.
Charlotte's attention had been on the children all along and she didn't notice what they were talking about over there.
Linda was worried that she had brought Sanila without asking her first. "She came to visit us suddenly, and I couldn't refuse. So I had to let her come along."
They were all women, and it was normal to have such concerns. Linda didn't want her to have any worries.
However, from Lu En's behavior, Charlotte didn't think this woman could pose any threat to her.
"It's okay. After all, we grew up together. Why would I mind such a thing?"
Charlotte subconsciously turned her head and glanced in their direction.
Lu En didn't have any special gestures, and the two of them were chatting and laughing like old friends who hadn't seen each other in years.
They talked about some work-related matters.
It had to be said that these social elites were really busy. Even at such a family gathering, they still discussed business.
Until she heard a sentence about needing Lu En's help in business in the future.
She didn't think much about it. After all, they had grown up together, and such things were understandable.
Lu En's expression turned cold as he spoke, "Let's talk about it later. You can ask my wife. I'm quite busy lately, so I probably won't be able to help you much."
Even before getting married, Lu En would keep his distance from people. He didn't like sudden intimacy, but Charlotte didn't feel the same way about him.
Although they had grown up together, their feelings were lukewarm, nothing special.
Sanila heard his intentional refusal and glanced at Charlotte with a hint of indifference in her eyes.
But she quickly adjusted her emotions. "That's fine. As long as there's someone who can take care of me, it's good. I'm back now. Although I'm starting with my own family's company, it's no different from starting over."
"Changing environments and starting over are indeed no different," Lu En said, then turned to Delice and said, "The coffee is finished. Make two more cups for us."
Delice quickly cleared away the coffee cups.
"My wife is very strict with work. If you're treated unfairly by her, don't come crying to me," Lu En said jokingly.
Sanila looked fearless. She had seen all kinds of people abroad over the years, and she didn't believe that a woman she had never heard of could do anything to her!
She had accumulated a lot of work experience over the years, and she was confident in dealing with Charlotte.
Sanila pretended to be humble and took a deep breath. "Then I'll take it seriously. But sister-in-law doesn't seem like a career woman. She doesn't look like a strong woman."
Lu En didn't hesitate to praise the jewelry designs Charlotte had made.
There were a few pieces that even Sanila, who was abroad, had heard of and bought.
She had come for Lu En, but she hadn't expected that the carefully selected jewelry was actually made by Lu En's wife.
Sanila looked at Charlotte in disbelief. She didn't seem like someone who could create such things.
Lu En caught the astonishment in her eyes and said calmly, "Charlotte is very talented, and I love her very much."
Sanila didn't want to hear about what happened between them. She interrupted him
directly, "You should tone it down a bit. I'm still single. Do you have to flaunt your love in front of me and care about these people's lives?"
