Chapter 989 He’s Doing What He Wants to Do

After speaking with me, she went back to her room to pack up her things, preparing to return to Tully City in the afternoon. I was originally planning to visit Lucas, but I decided to go to Sanchez Corp instead. Since I had told Minerva I would stay in Tully City for a couple more days with Sally, I figured I could not just not show. At the bottom of the Sanchez Corp building, I unexpectedly ran into Ensio. He had just gotten out of his car, and seeing him, I instinctively thought Idris might be in the car too. I was thinking about how to avoid them when Ensio called out to me first, "Ms. Scott." His call made me stop in my tracks and turn back to look at him. I managed a smile. "Mr. Candor, what a coincidence." He smiled back, lifting the documents in his hand. "I'm here at Sanchez Corp for some business. Ms. Scott, are you here for work too?" It seemed as if he was implying he was alone, so I paused. "Just you?" I actually wanted to ask about Idris's presence but decided to keep it vague. He nodded slightly, saying, "Yes, Mr. Young went back to Lake City. He's left me to handle things here." Back to Lake City already? So soon? Was it because of what I said to him that he left in his rage? "When did he leave?" I asked. "Mr. Young left last night due to some business back in Lake City," he replied. So he left last night... "Oh," was all I could say, not pursuing the topic further. We entered Sanchez Corp together. Catching a glimpse of the project in his hand, I could not help but say, "Most of the land near Tully City that can be developed has already been developed. Why would Mr. Young bother buying those few plots from Sanchez Corp for a factory? From what I understand, being close to the border, Tully City has many areas that are not easily accessible. Plus, with the low cost of living, the purchasing power of the locals isn't that high. Opening a factory here doesn't seem like a good choice." Ensio smiled slightly, nodding in agreement. "Indeed, I thought the same at first and didn't understand why Mr. Young suddenly wanted to open a factory in Tully City. But after Mr. Young explained it, I understood." I looked at him curiously. "What was Idris thinking?" "Ms. Scott, all the concerns you've mentioned were indeed considered by Mr. Young initially, but the purpose of opening factories here isn't to make money," Ensio continued with a smile. "Young Corporation's enterprises, both international and in various cities across the country, are stable and profitable, so it really doesn't make sense to use these two insignificant factories in Tully City to make money." "If not to make money, then what? For charity?" Ensio nodded. "Tully City is close to the border, and with the current civil war at the border, many people who previously made a living there can't continue due to the war and have had to return to Tully City. There are also some people who smuggled without an identity, almost occupying Tully City. Ms. Scott, you're well aware of Tully City's economic situation. In such a case, neither Tully City's government nor businesses can accommodate so many people at once. When there are too many idle people, it's easy for social problems to arise. Mr. Young said he's not an official and can't consider everyone, but he can do something to give these idle people a sense of belonging." I was taken aback and said, "So, he signed for those two plots of land from Sanchez Corp to build factories just to recruit these idle people as workers?" Ensio nodded slightly and said, "That's part of it." After a moment of silence, I asked, "How many employees will your factories need after they’re stabilized?" "About ten thousand people for one factory," Ensio replied, pausing before continuing, "Mr. Young didn't just buy the land from Sanchez Corp. He also rented a lot of agricultural land from farmers in the surrounding counties. As for these lands, Mr. Young plans to use them for greenhouses to grow crops that are in short supply in the mainland." I nodded, understanding Idris's intentions. Young Corporation, being a large enterprise, had an obvious sales channel. Although transportation in Tully City was inconvenient, as long as there was demand on the mainland and Tully City could supply enough goods, it would not be a bad deal. If well managed, it could turn into a significant profit. Moreover, this way, not only would he help the government solve the problem of the sudden influx of hundreds of thousands of people, but he would also pave the way for Young Corporation's future development. He was a qualified businessman, never allowing making money and having a conscience to be in conflict. Initially, I thought he really came to Tully City with me just for the development of Newburn Village, which now seemed like a trivial matter. My view was too narrow. Ensio and I entered Sanchez Corp, and he went with Sally to the office to discuss the next steps in their collaboration. I waited for Sally in the reception area, along with Sonya and Ramona. One of the teenagers was quiet and reserved, while the other one was lively and spewing her quick wit. Sonya was clearly the latter.
