The trip back to the Nightveil Pack took about four hours. We chatted lightly, occasionally singing along to songs on the radio, and enjoyed the passing scenery.
As we crossed the Nightveil Pack border, the atmosphere changed. I could feel the shift in energy—from the peaceful atmosphere of Moonwhisper to the more... alert atmosphere of Nightveil.
“They're still on high alert,” Kaelos muttered, noticing the increased patrols at the border.
“Because of Darius?” I asked, even though I already knew the answer.
“Yes,” Kaelos nodded. “Until we find him or confirm that he is no longer a threat, we cannot lower our guard.”
Several soldiers on patrol immediately recognized our car and gave a respectful salute. Kaelos responded with a nod.
When we arrived at the house—a large mansion that served as Alpha's residence—Callista was already waiting on the terrace with a big smile.
