"I've got a first-aid kit at home. I'll clean you up when we get back," Wendy said.
Liam nodded as he drove down the street.
Once they got home, Wendy pulled out the first-aid kit and kneeled on the living room rug. She gently dabbed at the cut on Liam's cheek.
"Does it look bad?" he joked.
She shot him a look. "Does it hurt? Your lip's busted—quit talking so much."
Liam kept his eyes on her. "It hurt earlier. But now, it doesn't anymore."
"Did you hit a nerve or something? Maybe you should go to the ER," she said, clearly worried.
She held the cotton swab midair, not realizing how close she had leaned in while treating his wound. Liam's breath was warm on her face, and she suddenly frowned.
"You feel kind of hot."
She pressed the back of her hand to his forehead, then checked her own for comparison.
"Okay, no fever… but if you do spike one, I'm sending the bill to James," she said, huffing.
At the mention of James, her tone turned sharp with frustration.
