Chapter 246: Couldn't Hold Back

Leah, hearing the knock, opened the door to find Henry standing there. Her face soured immediately, and she started berating him right away. "You good-for-nothing bastard, you have the nerve to show your face here? Look at the mess you've made of our family!" Leah's tirade escalated, and she was close to physically assaulting Henry. "Where's Sophie?" Henry, ignoring the barrage, asked Leah directly. "You have the audacity to ask for Sophie? Get out, just get out!" Leah said, moving to push Henry away. "Enough!" Already worried about Sophie, Henry couldn't restrain himself any longer and snapped back with a cold shout. Leah was startled into silence, standing there dumbfoundedly staring at Henry. "You... did you hear that? This worthless man dared to yell at me..." After a moment, Leah managed to regain her composure, turning to Baron to complain. "Henry, you leave for a few days, and now you think you can defy the heavens? Get out now! The Mitchell family has no room for you. If you don't leave, I won't hold back!" Baron, picking up a nearby broom, threatened to hit Henry. Henry gave them a cold look, "I've tolerated you, for Sophie's sake, to avoid her getting upset!" "Now, Sophie has been wronged by the family, and instead of comforting her, you're causing a scene like this. Are you even her real parents?!" That remark left Baron and Leah speechless. "Henry, stop it, come in!" Just then, Sophie opened her bedroom door and called out to Henry. "Coming..." Upon seeing Sophie, Henry responded and brushed past the two, heading straight into her room. "Why were you so harsh on them? You know they are my parents, right?" Sophie confronted him immediately, clearly displeased. "I'm sorry, I was really worried about you, so I lost control of my emotions. I'll apologize to them when I go out," Henry said, showing a rare moment of helplessness. "Forget it, they were wrong first. Besides, I know how much you've been humiliated and wronged in this house over the years. It's understandable that you couldn't control your emotions. Anyway, our relationship is almost over, and soon you won't have to deal with me or apologize on my behalf," Sophie said, her voice trailing off, leaving Henry stunned. He hadn't expected Sophie to bring up the topic of divorce at such a time. "Alright, have it your way. But what exactly is going on with the family?" Henry finally asked, his face expressionless. "Gabriel brought in Axel, who wants to invest thirty billion in the family business, but he demands that we sever ties with Lumin Sky Group and Royal Entertainment Media Group. He even slandered me, accusing me of extorting those companies..." Sophie's voice grew angrier, and tears began to fall. Seeing Sophie cry, Henry felt a surge of compassion. "Don't worry, this will all blow over soon." "Don't do anything rash. I heard that Axel mentioned you had some history with him. Be careful; that man is wealthy and influential," Sophie warned, her concern for Henry evident. "You don't have to worry about me; I have my ways," Henry reassured her. "What ways? Are you going to rely on your fists again? Can't you be more rational? Besides, I chose to leave the family myself; let's just let this go." "Sophie, do you really see me as a simple-minded, brawny loser with no skills?" Henry asked, his frustration showing as he looked at her. Sophie paused, her gaze fixed on Henry, unable to find the words to respond. "I... I just don't want you to worry too much about my problems. And... I'm worried about you..." "Let me make this clear: others might bully me, but bullying you is where I draw the line!" "Alright, let's not talk about this anymore. I'm fine now. I plan to start job hunting tomorrow. I, Sophie, refuse to believe I can't survive without The Mitchell!" Sophie quickly changed the subject, seeing Henry's serious face softened into a smile. "That's the spirit. The capabilities of my wife aren't just for show!" This comment warmed Sophie's heart, though she managed to keep her face expressionless. "Still, you should take this time to rest properly. There's no rush to find a job right away. In fact, even if you don't work, it won't be a problem." "Won't be a problem? Do you think my parents would agree to that?" Sophie replied, her face a mix of frustration and resignation. Henry chuckled lightly. "Have you forgotten the gifts I've given you? Those treasures could fetch a fortune if sold..." "Get lost. Even if I were starving, I wouldn't sell those things!" Sophie retorted, not amused. "Why not?" Henry teased, sensing he'd struck a nerve. "I...," Sophie's cheeks flushed with embarrassment, then she quickly added, "Only those with no skills resort to selling their valuables. I, Sophie, am not useless to earn my living." "Heh, okay. But even if you were without skills, I could still provide for you, ensuring you're well-fed and healthy." "Shut up, or I'll kick you out!" Sophie's face turned even redder as she playfully threatened Henry. However, deep down, she was genuinely looking forward to the day they could be together without constraints, even though their relationship had started under a contract and seemed destined to end without fulfilling their connection. "Alright, I'll stop teasing. Let me tell you something serious," Henry shifted the conversation. "What is it?" Sophie inquired, curious. "I'm hosting a dinner tonight for a few friends. If you're free, would you like to join me?" "You're hosting a dinner?" Sophie was surprised. She knew Henry had some money, but she didn't think he was wealthy enough to host dinners, especially since he had been saving up to find his sister. The fact that Henry mentioned having friends to invite was also unusual for her. "Oh, I met a few friends while out with my boss last time. They're visiting King City, so I thought of treating them to a meal." This explanation seemed reasonable to Sophie. "That sounds appropriate. Do you have enough money for it? I have some savings; you can take it if you need." "No need, it's actually being hosted at Felix's Marriott International Hotel, so there's no expense on my part." Sophie was taken aback. Henry's connection with the renowned Marriott International Hotel's owner in King City was surprising to her. Nonetheless, she was relieved he wasn't mixing with the wrong crowd like Zane. "So, will you join me?" Henry asked again, hoping for her company.
