Chapter 245: She Is the Most Wronged

"Ha, touched a nerve, have we? Now you're trying to counterattack!" Gabriel sneered coldly. "Ms. Mitchell, before deciding to invest in your company, I did my homework on you. You've got some skills, sure, but compared to Mr. Gabriel, it's not even close. Therefore, if we proceed with this investment, The Mitchell must be under Mr. Gabriel's charge. You, on the other hand, are not suitable for staying in The Mitchell Group," Axel said, glancing at Sophie with a smirk. "Our Mitchell affairs are not for outsiders to meddle with," Sophie retorted. "I'm not interested in meddling, but I do expect accountability for my investment. I've heard your husband is a losser, and given my past dealings with him, I think you'd be better off going home and bearing children for that losser husband, rather than staying at The Mitchell!" Axel's words were a direct attack, causing Sophie's face to change dramatically as she stood up from her chair, glaring coldly at him. "Sophie, what do you think you're doing! Sit down, how unbecoming!" Joseph immediately scolded as Sophie stood up, furious. "Grandfather, are you just going to let Gabriel and his accomplice slander me?" Sophie argued back. "Their intentions are clearly malicious, and they could very well ruin The Mitchell's future!" She then turned her gaze to Axel, saying coldly, "I don't know what past issues you have with my husband, but you have no right to criticize him in our presence. I will never agree to this!" "Hmph, Lord of The Mitchell, perhaps you should resolve your internal issues before discussing any partnerships with me," Axel responded with a cold expression, turning to Joseph. Seeing Axel's anger, Joseph's face showed a flash of nervousness, and he quickly apologized, "Mr. Trelawney, please, don't be upset. It's my fault for not managing things properly." "Rest assured, I can resolve this now." After saying this, Joseph's cold gaze landed on Sophie, "Sophie, effective immediately, you are on leave. As for what comes next, we'll discuss it with the family and someone will notify you." Sophie felt a chill in her heart. She couldn't believe that after all her efforts to return and contribute to The Mitchell, they were now ready to cast her out again. She remembered Henry's words, suggesting perhaps it was best not to cling to such a family. "Grandfather, I still call as grandfather, in front of all the directors here today, I, Sophie, am officially no longer part of The Mitchell. Even if The Mitchell were to perish tomorrow, it would have nothing to do with me, Sophie!" "Sophie, have you lost your mind? What are you saying?!" "Get out!" "Indeed, how dare a woman like you make such audacious claims in The Mitchell!" Sophie's declaration naturally incited a wave of criticism. "One day, you'll regret this. Even if you come begging me to return with a grand procession, I won't come back! And Gabriel, your slanderous accusations against me will be met with a lawsuit. Wait for the summons!" With these final words, Sophie turned and walked resolutely out of the office. Unseen by all, the moment she turned away, tears streamed down her face. She felt deeply wronged. Returning to her office, Sophie quickly packed her belongings into a box and left the company. Her departure set the company abuzz, with some reveling in her misfortune and others feeling pity and injustice on her behalf. Anyway, Sophie leaving The Mitchell marked a significant change. She didn't leave Joseph with any dignity, and fueled by Gabriel's instigation, Joseph, in a fit of rage, expelled both Baron and Leah from the family as well. Shortly after, Ella and Theo triumphantly returned to the company. When Sophie got home, followed by Baron and Leah's return, she was met with a barrage of scolding, especially from Leah, who was as vitriolic as a shrew, blaming Sophie through tears and snot. Already feeling victimized, Sophie expected her home to be her sanctuary, but found no warmth, only resentment. "Enough, both of you, stop it!" Sophie couldn't take it anymore and shouted at Leah and Baron. Her outburst, uncharacteristic of her usually gentle demeanor, silenced Leah instantly. "Mom, Dad, if you despise me so much, why did you even bother having me? How have I ever wronged you? Even if marrying Henry wasn't to your liking, haven't we both treated you well over the years?" "Now that Henry is driven away, you start on me? Do you only feel satisfied when I'm gone too?" After her tirade, Sophie stormed into her bedroom. Baron and Leah were left speechless, never imagining their mild-tempered daughter could speak to them in such a manner. "Ah... When you think about it, what are our grievances compared to Sophie's? She is the most wronged..." Baron sighed, speaking softly. "Shut up, you pathetic excuse of a man! Marrying you was my life's biggest mistake. A crooked beam leads to a lopsided house; now, our whole family has been cast out, left to fend for ourselves!" Leah exploded at Baron. "Stop fighting. I'll look for work tomorrow. I won't let us starve," Sophie called out from her bedroom, trying to quell the storm her departure had unleashed. Immediately, Leah and Baron dared not speak further. Sophie lay in bed, covered with her blanket, crying out her grievances. It wasn't until her eyes were swollen and her throat hoarse that Sophie's tears finally began to subside. Meanwhile, Henry, having left Lumin Sky Group, had planned to visit a suburban villa for a change of scenery when he suddenly sneezed several times. Furrowing his brows, a sense of unease washed over him. He quickly pulled out his phone and dialed Sophie. Sophie, having just calmed down a bit, saw Henry's call coming through. After a moment's hesitation, she answered. "Sophie, where are you?" "At home," she replied, her voice slightly raspy. "Are you okay? Do you have a cold?" Henry asked immediately, concerned by her voice. "No... no, I've just come back from the company. You were right; the family has kicked me and my parents out of the company again..." Sophie's tone carried a hint of resignation as she spoke. "Wait for me, I'm coming home right now!" Upon hearing this, Henry hurriedly hailed a taxi and rushed towards Sophie's home... Twenty minutes later, Henry arrived at the complex and quickly made his way up the stairs towards Sophie's apartment.
