Chapter 21

Streetlights lit up all around in the dark night. When Meredith turned on her phone, there were over 100 missed calls and more than 99 unread messages. Some were from Nicholas, some from her parents, others from friends, and a few from the wedding planner. "The wedding planner?" Meredith thought with a frown. Then, she recalled that today was supposed to be her wedding day. She had forgotten all about it. But what difference did it make whether she remembered or not? The whole wedding had been a sham to begin with. It was a carefully staged act she and Nicholas had put together to crush Adonis' feelings and kill any lingering feelings he had for her. Meredith got exactly what she wanted with hardly any effort, so the wedding no longer served any purpose. As she reflected on the past two months when she forced herself to kiss Nicholas and pretended to be in love, she couldn't help but think that she'd gone out of her way to be utterly ridiculous. But the more she laughed at herse
