Holding Stella's hand, Lincoln walked straight up to Veronica and stared at her. He raised his chin arrogantly as he remarked, "Veronica, don't assume that helping me earns you my gratitude. Let me be clear—I only acknowledge Rowena as my sister."
Even Lydia, who was merely an onlooker, couldn't help but frown at his words.
A flicker of contempt crossed Veronica's face.
She glanced sideways at Lincoln. "Who said I was helping you? I only acted because if you'd really humiliated yourself like that, everyone in the Walsh family would be dragged down with you, including me."
She added coolly, "And didn't you hear what Jonathan said? If I didn't take the bet, I wouldn't be able to leave either. So don't flatter yourself. If you're really that high and mighty, why don't you go back and bet with Jonathan yourself?"
Veronica's tone was filled with sarcasm.
"You..." Lincoln was left speechless, and his face instantly turned pale.
