Chapter 1167
Amidst the chatter, the group soon arrived at the harbor.
There was no boat home, which operated only once a month. However, there was a small electric-powered wooden boat by the docks. Brett was standing there, looking toward Adrian and the others. He walked over when the car stopped.
Adrian, Gloria, and the others got out. Brett said, "You guys are here. I've been waiting for you guys."
"This spells trouble.” Mya tutted and pointed at the wooden boat. "Brett, are you sure this little boat will be able to handle the great sea? The waves won’t flip it over, right?"
Brett smiled in embarrassment as he scratched his head. "I'm really sorry, Ms. Mya, but they're really poor people. I had to pay the fishermen a huge sum just to borrow this boat. Don't worry, I checked the weather report today. We won't be facing any waves today."
"What baloney. Don't you know it's almost impossible to predict what the weather out at sea will be like? I'm going to give you a good beating if I fall overboard." Mya rolled her eyes, while Brett smiled.
The nation on the other side of the shore was poor, so Brett had to spend a lot of effort to rent this wooden boat from fishermen. It would be unrealistic for him to bring over a ship from elsewhere.
He said, "Please, enough with the jokes, Ms. Mya. Hop on. There’s a car waiting on the opposite shore. It'll be a smooth ride back, and I estimate we'll arrive at Novemton Airport in two days' time.” He gestures. “After you, sir."
"Good work," Adrian said before Gloria, Mya, and himself got onto the boat.
Brett turned around and said, "You’re not coming with us, Hayden? Don't you want to watch what happens during the legate selection? It's a rare sight, after all."
Hayden shook his head. "I'm not going back. Take good care of the War Legate Draco. I'll buy you a drink when you get back."
"Okay, I'll be off then."
The men shook hands before Brett got onto the boat. The generator roared pitifully as it spurred into action. Brett steered it toward the opposite shore.
Whirr, whirr, whirr…
The whirring from the generator annoyed Mya greatly. Feeling impatient, she said, "Brett, why is that thing so loud? Are you sure it's not going to blow up or something?"
Brett chuckled. "Don't worry, Ms. Mya. I checked the generator before leaving. We'll be there in eight hours. I promise you that this boat will get us there safely…"
But before he could finish, the generator suddenly made a few popping noises and died.
"What just happened?" Mya asked with a startled expression.
Brett was dumbfounded. He tried to restart the generator but to no avail. Gloria started laughing, and Mya looked like she was ready to kill someone.
Mya questioned, "Didn't you say the generator's fine? So why is it dead?"
Embarrassed, Brett let off a wry smile. "Let's just give it a moment. It might just be a blocked valveI'll get it fixed right away."
He opened up the compartment where the generator was stored with some tools to find out what was happening. After half an hour, the generator roared back to life, and the group continued on their journey.
The sea breeze seemed to have a calming effect on everyone's hearts.
Gloria looked out at the vast sea with its endless horizon. Coupled with the joy of gaining a new life, she felt that everything in front of her was a fresh new experience.
