Chapter 696

Then, Matthew continued, "He's the first-ever plague doctor—Josiah Wooler—and he saved the whole city from the plague. "Josiah made them all wait in their homes, peeking through the crack every now and then. If they saw the Miracle Healing Banner by their door, it meant that it was their turn to be treated. "After everyone in Yggdrath recovered from the plague, they began to shun him and say that since he kept treating patients who contracted the plague, they would all die if they went near him. "It was as if they had all forgotten who it was that saved them all in the first place. Though a plague doctor receives the most contempt and scorn even after all of the effort they've put into healing people, they deserve the utmost respect as well." Having said that, Matthew took a glance at Jonas, noticing that the latter was busy gritting his teeth in pain. Who knew if Jonas had heard what he said? Matthew then shook his head and said, "Why am I telling you all of this anyway? You're about to die." By the door, Kingston had burst out in tears, even creating a puddle on the floor with his tears. He had been bearing way too much burden all these years, and he couldn't take it anymore. At one point, he even questioned his identity as a descendant of the Wooler family and hated that his father had asked him to become a plague doctor. This was the first time Kingston had heard anyone speaking up for a plague doctor. Inside the office, Matthew turned to Julian and said, "It's time for you to get to work!" Instantly, Julian understood what he meant—Matthew wanted him to call the Fuller family, just like how he had called them when Eddie had died. However, Jonas had yet to die, though his chest was filled with bullet wounds, where the blood wouldn't stop flowing out of. Still, Jonas was a dying man anyway. Matthew knitted his brows at Julian's hesitation, saying, "Well, guess I should kill you as well since you're not willing to do it." Julian jolted in fear and replied, "I'll call them! I'll call them right now!" Then, he fished out his phone and dialed a number, greeting the other end as soon as the call was picked up. "Hello, I'm Julian. Jonas is dead." After he said that, Julian took a look at Jonas, who was throwing up a mouthful of blood. He wasn't dead just yet, but Julian spoke of him as if he were long gone. Those words really pricked him, and he wanted to curse Julian out. But Jonas knew that if he somehow offended Julian now, he would be gone in an instant. Then, Jonas gathered the last of his breath and said, "Julian, call 911, quick! I'm not dead yet! I'll be sure to make you rich as long as you save me now!" Julian was scared shitless that he began to pee his pants, saying, "You… You're almost dead anyway, so stop spouting nonsense already. You're going to drag me down the muddy waters too!" Jonas stared at Julian in disbelief. Who knew that Julian would switch sides and betray him so quickly? He was so furious that he threw up another mouthful of blood. Soon, Jonas' movements became sluggish, and his head dropped to the ground—he finally stopped moving. Julian continued with his call, awaiting a response from the other side. In Mistvale City, Vernon had just invited a fortune teller over to the Fuller residence. The fortune teller did some of his own calculations and said sternly, "The Fuller family is in deep trouble. There's a woman who remains resentful even after her death and won't rest in peace. "You must send her off into the afterlife, and only then can you overcome the troubles your family is facing." Vernon frowned, but he was fine with it as long as there was a way out. "Here's 100 thousand dollars as a token of appreciation. I hope that the woman gets sent into the afterlife as soon as possible." Vernon couldn't tell who it was that stirred up such troubles, but he hoped that it would all be resolved quickly. After all, not only did he fool around with countless women when he had gotten rich, but his sons also took after him—they all loved screwing around with women. The fortune teller tugged at his lips and suppressed a smile, saying, "I'll do my best." Just then, Vernon's phone rang, and he picked it up. "Hello. Who is it?" Julian then introduced himself urgently. "Hi, I'm Julian Stone from Lambda City." Vernon soon recognized him and replied, "Alright. You can call my son directly if you've got anything to say, so why are you calling me?" Then, Julian said carefully, "Jonas is dead." Immediately, Vernon stood up abruptly, demanding, "Who killed my son?" His nephew had died just a while ago, but he never thought there'd come a day when his son would die too. Vernon was about to go crazy at the thought of it. Julian answered, "It's the same person. He also mentioned that no one else should try and revive Lifehaven Pharmaceuticals, or he would kill them." When Vernon heard what Julian had said, he gritted his teeth furiously. "I'll make his whole family pay for this! How dare he kill my son! I don't care—I'm rich enough, and I'll make sure he gets crushed even if I have to use up all my money!"
