Chapter 683

Sophia's sobs grew even more aggrieved. "Matthew didn't give me a chance to explain anything! Joshua, you can't let him get away with this." Joshua frowned as he inspected Sophia's face. Sophia's lip was split with blood trickled down, and her face was swollen. One of her eyes had puffed up, and there were clear bruises from the handprints left on her skin. The more Joshua looked, the angrier he got. He wasn't just anyone in Lambda City, yet Sophia had been beaten to this extent. Joshua strode over to Matthew. "You hit Sophia, didn't you, you bastard?" Matthew was still examining the scratches on Lorraine's face. The blood had clotted, and it looked like the wounds would take at least three days to heal. Thankfully, it didn't seem like they would leave scars as it was just a close call. If the scratches had been any deeper, it would've been much worse. Matthew turned back to Joshua with a cold expression. "It's lucky Lorraine's face injuries aren't too serious. A few slaps won't make up for it if things had been worse." Joshua had a ferocious smile on his face. "You idiot! Do you even know who I am? Let me make this clear—you've made a huge mistake. You'll pay for what you've done." Matthew eyed Joshua up and down. He wore a white shirt, black dress pants, and leather shoes. Joshua looked like some department head, but the way he spoke was more like a street thug picking a fight. Matthew's voice was icy. "I don't know who you are, but you better watch your mouth. And just to be clear, I didn't act impulsively. I thought it through before I hit Sofia." "You!" Joshua's eyes glinted with malice. "Alright. Fine. Let me tell you who I am, and I hope you don't wet yourself when you hear it!" Matthew snorted coldly and watched Joshua quietly. He wondered who this arrogant man could be. Joshua enunciated each word slowly. "My name is Joshua Stephenson. Do you get that? I repeat, I am Joshua Stephenson. You should know who I am by now, but it's too late to apologize as I won't accept it anyway. Matthew furrowed his bows. The name didn't ring any bells. "I never planned on apologizing. And I don't care if you're just random somebody." Joshua was taken aback, his face turning dark with embarrassment. Matthew was clearly trying to humiliate him. Pointing to his chest, Joshua growled. "You don't know who I am? What? Have you been living in a jungle? How could you not know my name in Lambda City?" Matthew remained silent, and his face was cold. In truth, Joshua had hit the mark that Matthew had spent the last three years in prison, so he might as well have been living in a jungle. But now, Matthew was more curious than ever. Just who did Joshua think he was to act so arrogantly? Seeing Matthew's calm demeanor, Joshua's face grew even darker. It seemed like Matthew truly had no idea who he was dealing with. "Fine then. Let me spell it out. I'm the secretary in the mayor's office, Joshua Stephenson. You got it now?" A secretary? Matthew was stunned. With the way Joshua had been boasting, he thought the man might have been the mayor himself. But a secretary? How could a guy like this act so brazenly? Joshua mistook Matthew's surprise for fear. He pointed at Matthew and said, "Wait, I'm calling Mr. Murray right now. I'm going to make sure you're done for today!" Joshua pulled out his phone. "Hello, is it Mr. Murray?" Lillian, witnessing the situation, felt her legs go weak. Upon seeing this, Lillian was so frightened that her legs began to weaken. She was so frightened that she pulled Matthew's arm and asked worriedly. "What are we going to do? I never should've called you and I should've handled it on my own. You just got out of prison, and you shouldn't go back to prison again." Upon hearing Lillian's words, Lorraine started crying. "Dad, I don't want you to go back to jail. I won't ask Tobby to apologize anymore.
