Chapter 119 Please Calm Down
Helena's words cut deep into Daphne. The polite smile on her face gradually faded as she looked from Helena's fake pleasantries, then at Cressida standing stiff and guarded beside her.
Daphne's eyes filled with undisguised disappointment and an ache of pity for Cressida. The mood in the living room dropped in an instant by that single remark.
Cressida's fingers curled slightly at her side. She could ignore whatever Helena said, but she couldn't bear to upset her grandmother. So she turned to Helena and said, "Stay for dinner."
Helena was about to explode when Natasha beat her to it. She looped her arm through Helena and said, "Cressie, how can you speak to Mom that way? She's so busy, yet she still made time to see you and Mrs. Sheppard. You should be grateful."
She paused, then turned to Helena with sugary concern. "Mom, don't take what she said too seriously. She's been living alone for so long, she's probably forgotten how to act around family."
