Chapter 789 Scaring Her Away
As Vickie spoke, the blade slid from Yuliana’s ear to her neck. The cold, metallic blade left a chill on her skin and she was on the verge of tears.
“Vickie, don’t...don’t do this. Just talk to me properly…”
No matter how bold and brazen Yuliana was, she was just a young lady who lived a sheltered life. Since when had she been threatened by someone with a dagger?
Therefore, she nearly broke down when she sensed the hard blade pressing against her skin.
Nevertheless, Vickie would not let her off the hook that easily. Her gaze darkened and she continued, “Right, you still don’t know what I used to do for a living, do you?”
Yuliana shook her head. “No, I don’t.”
“How about…you take a guess? If you guess correctly, I’ll let you go.”
Yuliana listened and silently cursed that woman for being a pervert. However, she dared not say anything and tried her best to look at the latter in the eye.
The woman had fine features and seemed rather attractive. She was the type with a unique blend of innocence and ruggedness. Her short haircut was crisp and neat which complemented her deep-set eyes under her messy fringe.
Yuliana pondered and shook her head. “I don’t know.”
She could not figure it out at all.
Still, judging by Vickie’s appearance and charisma, Yuliana guessed that the former must have lived a good life as well. Otherwise, she would not have developed this sort of aura.
However, she was unable to tell for certain what Vickie used to do. She had a hunch after sensing the dangerous aura emanating from her but dared not say it.
Although Vickie noticed her reaction, she did not get angry. Instead, she smiled.
It was better had she not smiled, for when she did so, Yuliana felt a shiver run down her spine. She wished that Vickie would finish her piece quickly and let her go.
Vickie moved closer to her ear and lowered her voice to say, “I used to be…an assassin.”
What?
Yuliana was shocked.
An assassin? What the hell?
Vickie explained, “I’ve killed more people than you think. You’ve never seen an assassin kill someone before, have you? In fact, if I were to just give it a good thought, there are ten thousand ways for you to die. Plus, I can guarantee no one can tell who did it. Do you want to give it a try?”
Her words were laced with poison.
Yuliana finally understood that Vickie was not pulling her leg today.
Vickie bore a composed expression and did not throw a fit. Actually, she did not seem angry at all. However, Yuliana knew that she was upset, very upset!
The more upset she was, the calmer she looked!
Still waters ran deep. Its surface might look steady, but danger lurked beneath.
Yuliana was frightened!
For some reason, she had a sudden inkling that Vickie did have the guts and the ability to kill her, then hide her body without anyone’s knowledge. No one would find her and no one would realize what had happened.
Right now, she was extremely remorseful and regretted stepping on this woman’s toes.
Fortunately, Vickie had no intention of killing her. When she realized how pale Yuliana had become, she loosened her grip slowly, kept her dagger, and straightened her back.
She still appeared to be calm and collected as usual as if nothing had taken place earlier. She asked in a menacing tone, “Now, do you still believe that I’ve stolen your necklace?”
Yuliana shook her head mechanically.
Vickie raised her eyebrows.
“So?”
“I’ll leave at once!” Yuliana exclaimed. Then, something came to her mind, so she straightened herself quickly and repeated, “I’ll leave at once and I won’t bother you again. I’m sorry. I was ignorant and underestimated you. Will you please have mercy and not pick on me?”
Vickie’s lips curled into a subtle smile and she nodded. “Remember what you said. My patience is thin. Next time…”
“There won’t be a next time. I promise!”
Yuliana was desperate to get out of this situation alive. As soon as she finished speaking, she raised a hand and made a swearing gesture as if she was afraid Vickie would not believe her.
When Vickie returned a smile and gave her a knowing look, Yuliana got her meaning and ran away.
As she looked at Yuliana running down the corridor frantically, Vickie’s smile disappeared.
Andrea saw everything and was filled with both fear and respect for her mistress. She feared Vickie’s words. Having just arrived at the chateau, she was unaware of what had occurred the last time. Naturally, she was frightened when she overheard that Vickie was a killer.
On the other hand, she respected the way Vickie scared Yuliana as well as the charisma she gave off.
Vickie was no ordinary person.
When she thought of this, Andrea lifted her head once more and glanced at Vickie.
The woman had stopped looking out of the doorway. She was now adjusting a mirror on the table which Yuliana and her maid had upset earlier.
Instead of looking directly at Andrea, she kept her head lowered and ordered, “Everything’s fine now. You may leave.”
Andrea twitched her lips. She wanted to remind Vickie that the Young Master would not let her off the hook if he got wind of Yuliana’s disturbance here.
Vickie could report this incident to Gregory. After all, Yuliana wanted to throw Vickie out of the chateau. Instead, she might end up getting thrown out herself.
Nevertheless, Andrea remembered that she had not known Vickie for long and was uncertain of her character. If she made such remarks, Vickie might dislike her. Perhaps, she did not like this kind of person.
Somehow, Andrea suspected that Vickie would probably be reluctant to look for Gregory and get him to handle this matter.
Thus, in the end, she did not pass any comments. She simply answered in acknowledgment and exited the room obediently.
Once she was gone, the room was quiet at last.
Vickie stood on the spot. As her mind went blank, it felt like all the noise and chaos in the world had vanished. She even felt a bit lost.
Still, that feeling lasted for only one or two seconds. Soon, she regained her composure and laughed when she recalled Yuliana’s reaction just now.
Actually, she never really cared about Yuliana who was unimportant and not worth her time anyway. So, despite being aware of her shady tricks all this time, Vickie pretended not to notice her actions. The less trouble she got into, the better.
At any rate, she was controlled by Gregory. The man was suave and manipulative, and his control over things was exceptionally powerful. Even the most crafty and cunning of individuals would not be able to escape from his grasp.
Besides, Vickie was perfectly aware that Gregory’s feelings towards that woman might not be genuine.
Yuliana was just a pawn at his disposal. Spending time and energy on her would only spell trouble for herself.
Therefore, Vickie never bothered about her and never intended to tackle her. However, this did not stop the other party from giving her problems.
