Chapter 782 Intense Hatred

Both of them wore black tracksuits. The man looked quiet and soft-spoken, with buzz-cut hair and a pair of calm eyes. If someone who did not know better saw him, they might mistake him for an honest college student. Though the woman was definitely much more animated. Her long black hair was tied up in a high ponytail. Her facial features were exquisite, and her eyes were bright and intelligent. Moreover, her lips were slightly pouty, which made her appear to be smiling vaguely even with a neutral expression. The two people stood there for a while. Then, under the night sky, a similarly slender figure made its way towards them. Both of them were startled. Before this, when they heard the calm and composed voice over the phone, they thought it would be an older woman but they did not expect her to be so young. Little Eight was the first to step up. She squinted her eyes and smiled. “Hi, you’re Miss Thomas?” Vickie extended her hand to shake her hand. “That’s me.” The man behind also stepped forward to shake her hand. Vickie did not want to make any small talk, so she glanced at the SUV behind them and asked, “Where’s the thing?” “Inside the car.” Taking the lead, Vickie walked towards the car. Little Eight and her partner naturally followed behind her. They then popped open the trunk and a large black plastic bag was lying in there. Little Eight touched her nose and gave an embarrassed cough. “Sorry, due to the time constraint, we did not have enough time to find a better container to put her in. We simply used a bag.” Vickie’s facial expression remained unruffled. She simply replied, “It’s alright.” She stared at it in silence for a while. Then, she turned around and asked Little Eight, “Still the same account as before?” Little Eight nodded. Without delay, Vickie took out her phone and transferred the money. The card was a last-minute request from her to Mr. Osborne before she left the house this morning. As the amount involved was not too large and since Mr. Osborne had received orders to fulfill her requests, he gave it to her without any questions. Vickie knew that she would become very useful to Gregory soon after this, so she did not pinch any pennies while spending his money. There was no guilt whatsoever. After all, all this money could be considered as his compensation to her. It did not take long for the money to be transferred. While she was making the transfer, Little Eight had already received a notification on her end. A genial smile appeared on her face. “I’ve received it. I see that you didn’t drive here. It must be inconvenient to carry her while walking, right? Do you want me to give you a lift?” Unexpectedly, Vickie shook her head. She turned her head once again to look at the black figure lying in the trunk. Solemnly, she said, “The place that she’s going is not far from here. I will just carry her there.” When Little Eight heard that, she thought that Vickie’s words were strange, but she knew better than to say anything. She simply nodded and said, “Okay. Then, we’ll take our leave. Thanks for your business. If you have any other jobs in the future, I hope you’ll look for us again.” Vickie nodded at her good-naturedly. With that, Little Eight and her partner helped unload the body before they hopped into the SUV and drove away. The car rumbled into the vast darkness of the night and immediately after, the surroundings turned silent. In that deserted field, there was only Vickie, alone with a half-decomposed corpse. No matter how you looked at the situation, it was odd. She stood there quietly for a while, then squatted down to unzip the body bag. An indescribably putrid stench flooded her nostrils. She raised her hand to cover her mouth and nose with her sleeve. Using the pale moonlight as illumination, she finally saw the person lying inside clearly. It really was her. Fire Phoenix, the caporegime leader of the Fire Phoenix Caporegime in the Vermillion Bird Organization’s Twelve Caporegime. Back then, she was a very good friend of Vickie. After the Vermillion Bird Organization was disbanded, Fire Phoenix disappeared. At that time, it was rumored that she had fled to Country R. Vickie once rejoiced that not everyone had perished in that massacre. Even if one escaped, it was still one person saved. Why, then, after four and a half years, would she see Fire Phoenix’s corpse in a foreign country? Did she not manage to escape in the end? All of those who had been by Vickie’s side in the past had died, one after another, and not a single person was spared. Vickie shut her eyes as she felt various emotions surge painfully through her chest. Every so often, the emotions ricocheted fiercely against her chest, causing pain so excruciating that she wanted to scream. Nevertheless, she still clenched her teeth and pushed down the searing pain. As if it was grounded teeth and blood that was accompanied by an intense hatred that was deep into her bones, she swallowed all of it into her being. Hence, she picked up the dead body and walked into the distance. Not far away, there was a deserted crematorium. At this time, the workers in the crematorium had already left. So, Vickie carried the dead body while she stabilized her footing and leaped over the high courtyard wall in an agile movement. She then walked up to the iron door. Using a small hairpin on her head, she picked the lock, and gently pushed the door open. Immediately, an unimaginable stench wafted toward her but she knew it was the smell of dead bodies. Many people believed in feng shui and geomancy, so they would place the bodies here temporarily before the auspicious date arrived. Vickie had never imagined that she would come to such a place by herself one day to do such a thing. There was perhaps nothing in this world that was stranger than cremating a dead body in secret! Regardless, Vickie had no time to feel sorry for herself. Gregory was still waiting for her in the chateau. She believed that if she had not returned by 8:30 pm, that man would surely rush out to find her. His method of doing things had always been that way — brutish and violent, but useful. Hence, she quickly calmed her emotions and walked briskly towards the burning furnace. After a moment’s hesitation, she finally set the ice-cold body down and without opening it to take another look, she pushed it into the furnace. The black bag turned into a ball of blue flames inside the blazing furnace. As Vickie stood in front of the furnace, she could feel the scorching temperature burning her face. The distinctive pain felt like ten thousand ants crawling into her skin and entering her blood vessels, eating her up from the inside. She pressed hard on her chest. Her eyes were stinging, yet she could not shed a single tear. It was probably because all her tears had been completely shed four years ago. For more than a hundred days and nights, locked in the dark prison cell, she prayed fervently that her companions would survive. However, it turned out that there was none — not a single one. That left her so dejected that during that entire period, she had shed enough tears for an entire lifetime. Four years later, Vickie was no longer able to cry it out like before. Those painful and bitter emotions that no one would ever understand had already weighed down heavily on her heart, like an unmovable mountain. A long time ago, some unknown person said this. Only after experiencing more and more things that a person would become more and more silent and withdrawn. They would hide away all their sharp edges and become seemingly smooth and harmless, but in fact, they were just waiting for the right moment to unleash the killing blow.
