Chapter 781 Looking For Her

After Massimo and Yuliana’s big fight, they left the chateau. Yuliana was so frustrated from feeling wronged and upset. When she returned from the main building to the auxiliary building, she shut herself in her room and did not go back. Gregory, on the other hand, took a bath and continued to work on business matters. Just like that, it was time for dinner. He pinched the area in between his eyebrows and looked at the time. It was already 6:00 pm. So he rang the bell to summon Mr. Osborne. “Uncle Osborne, is she back?” Naturally, Mr. Osborne knew who the ‘she’ that Gregory was referring to. With a slightly lowered head, Mr. Osborne replied softly, “Not yet.” Not back yet? Gregory’s forehead wrinkled up tightly and a wave of irritation subconsciously rose in his heart. He waved his hand and dismissed Mr. Osborne. Then, he walked to the window and stared at the glowing pinpricks of light under the dusk-lit sky. His brows tightened. What was this woman doing? The two of them had an agreement that he would not bother her temporarily and allow her to stay at the chateau. In exchange, she would help him decipher the secret of that map. After all, it was just a cooperative relationship, and he had no right to dictate her whereabouts. However, deep inside his heart, a voice seemed to be clamoring desperately, wanting to find her and keep her within his sight, so that she would not leave again! Gregory raised his head slightly and closed his eyes before he took a deep breath. Finally, without making a call to her, he turned and walked out. At this moment, in another place. Inside a trendy bar, Vickie was holding a glass of red wine while she sat on a stool by the bar. She absent-mindedly watched the group of people on the dance floor. It was still early, just about 6:00 pm or 7:00 pm. The lights on the street had just turned on, so the real night-life had not started. There were very few customers around, but most of the people present were the bar’s employees. Jennie Taylor carried a cocktail and placed it on the bar table next to Vickie. She imitated Vickie’s move of propping a hand against the bar table and hopping onto the stool in a single move. She smiled as she said, “Sister, why did you suddenly come to visit me today?” Vickie glanced at her indifferently. Smiling, she replied, “Nothing much. I was just passing by and remembered that you work here, so I came to take a look.” Jennie nodded before she asked her, “Where are you working now? Are you doing well?” Naturally, Vickie ignored the first question and only answered the second question. “I’m doing alright.” Her tone was nonchalant as she picked up her wine glass. She then took a sip, but her gaze remained glued to the dance floor. A few young patrons were dancing to the music, and although there were very few people, it did not stop them from having fun. She suddenly thought of something and turned to ask Jennie, “When are you quitting?” Jennie smiled. “I’ve turned in my notice. They want me to work for another half a month. As soon as they hire someone to replace me, I can leave.” Vickie immediately frowned. “Another half a month?” Jennie waved her hand as if she was unconcerned. “I’ve worked there for so long and they treat me pretty well. Plus, I’m basically friends with my supervisor. I can’t just leave on a whim. I don’t want to trouble them either.” Thinking about her explanation, Vickie nodded. “Okay, it’s your decision. Be careful.” Jennie nodded. The two of them chatted for a while. During that time, Vickie acted like it was really a casual drop-by visit, so Jennie did not suspect anything. While they were chatting animatedly, a phone rang. Jennie looked around before she said, “Sister, it’s your phone.” Vickie fished out her phone from her pocket and it was still the old model that Jennie had given to her before. Although Mr. Osborne had prepared a new mobile phone and sim card for her and placed them in her room, Vickie did not use them. Unless it was absolutely necessary, she did not want to owe Gregory any ounce of favor. Even if it was just an insignificant mobile phone. When Vickie glanced at the number on the screen, she frowned slightly before putting the phone on silent and into her pocket. Upon seeing this, Jennie was curious, so she asked, “Who is that? Why didn’t you answer?” Vickie smiled faintly. “Just a telemarketer. I’m too lazy to deal with them.” “Oh.” Jennie did not doubt her. Raising the cocktail which she mixed for herself, she clinked her glass against Vickie’s with a smile. “Sister, congratulations on your release and for finding a new job. Here’s to wishing both of us better days ahead!” The smile plastered on an innocent young girl’s face was simply pure. Infected by her smile, Vickie cheered up a little. She then raised her glass and clinked it against Jennie’s before downing it in a gulp. After finishing her wine, she finally raised her wrist to check the time. “It’s getting late, I’m leaving.” “Now? Did you drive here?” “No, I’ll get a cab.” She hopped off the stool and patted Jennie on the shoulders. “You don’t have to see me off. Live well, I’ll visit you again when I have time.” Jennie did not send her off upon hearing that. Instead, she nodded and smiled. “I know.” Vickie waved her hand with her back towards Jennie as she walked out of the bar. The sky was already dark outside. Since dark clouds had gathered in the sky, it added another layer of gloominess to the night sky which imposed a strange pressure in people’s hearts, almost as if they were out of breath. Vickie took out the buzzing phone from her pocket once again. Looking at the caller ID, the veins on her forehead could not help but twitch. — — Gregory Graham. This man, why was he calling her incessantly at this time? Throughout Vickie’s stay at the chateau, it was not as if she had never come out by herself before and he usually was not this insistent on looking for her. Could it be that something had happened? After hesitating for a while, Vickie glanced at the time. It was only 7:30 pm, so there was still half an hour until her appointment with Little Eight and the others. She had time to take a call. Hence, she gripped her coat around her tightly and answered the phone as she walked out. “Hello.” “Where are you?” The man on the other end of the line sounded cool and collected. Vickie could almost imagine the unflappable expression on his face as he asked the question. She replied perfunctorily, “Outside, doing something.” “What thing?” Vickie raised an eyebrow. Her tone involuntarily turned cold. “Is Big Boss Graham trying to do a spot-check?” The other person went silent for a while. She could not tell what his emotions were as his tone remained flat and monotonous, albeit an octave deeper than before. “Come back, I have something to discuss with you.” Vickie was baffled. Soon after that, the call was disconnected. She put down her phone and looked at the call that was hung-up. It took a few seconds before a mocking smile appeared on her lips. At night, 8:00 pm. Next to a half-hidden factory, a black SUV drove steadily onto an empty clearing and stopped by a large tree at the edge of the clearing. When the car door opened, the first to alight was a thin, slender man. Following that, a similarly thin and slender yet more nimble and lively-looking, woman alighted from the back door.
