Chapter 778 Not Worth It

In the end, he lowered his head and said, “Alright, but as a friend, I still don’t wish to see either of you get hurt. Four years ago, I stood by his side because of the circumstances at that time, not because I harbor any ill-intentions towards you. Vick, I hope you understand.” Vickie did not say anything. Her eyebrows remained as calm as before, but deep in the corner of her eyes, there was a soft glimmer. She replied indifferently, “It’s all in the past.” Yes, it was all in the past! All the injuries she suffered, she could ignore them. All the pain she endured, she could forget them. All the people who betrayed her, she could forgive them. Though one thing she could not ignore was to forget and forgive. Those were the brothers and sisters who had died because of her. Even though they knew about her relationship with Gregory, they were still willing to trust her and believed in her promise that she would not betray the organization. All of them treated her with sincerity and welcomed her with enthusiasm. They believed that black was black and white was white. Despite knowing that she was a childhood friend of Gregory, they believed in her conviction, and that she would not put everyone in harm’s way for her own selfish interest. In the end, what did they get? It was a red-hot betrayal, an inhumane slaughter. It was pain and regret forged out of fresh flowing blood. There were countless nights where, as Vickie laid on the tiny metal bed inside her prison cell, she stared into the dark night and wondered to herself. If she could turn back time, what would she have chosen? She certainly would not have chosen to be with Gregory. Moreover, she definitely would not have chosen to believe in him, at the most critical moment, that he would keep his public and private affairs separate, that he would not use their relationship as a weapon and that he would not take advantage of her feelings. She was too naïve! Really too naïve! It was in that manner that he took advantage of her trust and her feelings for him. Step by step, he got closer to the core members of the Vermilion Bird Organization. Using the Vermilion Bird Organization’s trust in Vickie, he leaked some fake information and finally caught them all in a single swoop. Then, he killed all of them. What a cruel heart! Considering how cruel his heart was, why did he not just kill her altogether? Vickie had thought about this countless times, but she did not have an answer. Perhaps she would not know the answer for the rest of her life. While she was caught up in her thoughts, there were sounds of footsteps. She shook herself gently and returned to the present but all she saw was Yuliana holding Gregory’s arm and marching towards her with a livid expression. “Gregory, look, she was the one who slapped me. My face is still swollen. I merely wanted to pour her a glass of water, but she hit me. How can there be such an unreasonable person in the world?” She held onto Gregory’s arm and looked up at him with an aggrieved yet respectful expression. Gregory’s expression was indifferent, there was no hint of joy nor anger. However, his gaze towards Vickie had a sliver of malicious scorn. “Oh? You said she hit you?” “Yes.” “Then hit her back. Why did you drag me here?” When he said that, Yuliana was taken aback. Massimo cleared his throat and he could not help but explain, “Gregory, this is not Vick’s fault. Yuliana was the one who poured a glass of water all over Vick first, and that’s why Vick retaliated.” “Vick?” Gregory uttered the word softly, then narrowed his eyes to look at Massimo. Massimo gulped. From Gregory’s glare, Massimo received a dangerous threat. He immediately shut his mouth and took a step back. Then, he turned his head away and looked in another direction, pretending that he had not said anything. Only then did Gregory retract his glare. Meanwhile, as Vickie watched all of this unfold, she felt a chill in her heart yet her expression remained unmoved. She merely replied coolly, “I did hit her, so what?” Gregory looked at her and smiled vaguely. His narrowed eyes were filled with immeasurable malice. “I normally don’t interfere with disputes between women, but now, Yuliana is my woman. She has suffered such a serious grievance today and since she sought me out, I cannot just ignore it. Miss Thomas, why don’t you just apologize? Surely one single word would not cost you much.” The atmosphere suddenly turned silent. Yuliana raised her eyebrows triumphantly and regarded Vickie with a contemptuous and challenging gaze. Massimo sighed silently. He could not bear to watch this anymore, so he started to walk into the distance. Vickie remained unperturbed. Though in the depth of her eyes, coldness gathered quietly. “What if I don’t apologize?” Yuliana snorted coldly, “Then we’ll kick you out of the chateau! From now onwards, you are not allowed to come back! The moment she spoke, she could feel a stern glare on top of her head. When Yuliana raised her head, she immediately saw Gregory’s icy glare directed at her and a chill ran down her spine. She quickly lowered her head and stopped talking. Gregory raised his head to look at Vickie. His tone was low but it still contained a hint of dominance that allowed no disobedience. “She does not have the right to chase you away, and you do not have the right to hit her. Vickie, apologize!” Vickie sneered at him. It had been a long time since she had truly sparred with someone. Suddenly, her knuckles were itching and her fingers felt tense. She asked, “Gregory Graham, are you sure you want to seek justice for her?” Gregory did not answer. However, silence was the best answer. With that, Vickie nodded. The icy chill in her heart gathered even more tightly than before. She could not tell if she was disappointed or upset, but she felt like the tiniest flame in the depth of her heart would soon be snuffed out. She took a step backward and said coldly, “I won’t apologize. If you truly want to seek justice, then come out and fight! How about you solve this like a man?” Gregory frowned slightly. Yuliana could not believe that the matter would escalate to this point. Was this person in front of her still a woman? How could she suggest she fight a man? Did she have any ounce of self-awareness that a woman should have? However, at this time, she did not dare to say much. She simply looked up at Gregory expectantly. After some time, Gregory broke into a laugh. His laughter was filled with mockery and scorn. He said, “Vickie, you’re not my opponent.” Not four years ago, let alone four years later. Vickie narrowed her eyes too. Her squinted eyes contained hints of amusement, yet imparted a sense of dread to people. “How do you know without giving it a try?” Upon seeing that, Gregory paused for two seconds before he stepped forward. Yuliana did not expect that he would actually agree to a fight. There was a burst of excitement and glee in her heart, but she put on a troubled expression and stretched out her hand to grab Gregory’s arm. “Gregory, why don’t… we just forget it.” She bit her lip and lowered her head. Then, she looked up at Vickie who was standing not far away and said, “After all, she’s just a girl. She slapped me, that’s already done. If she refuses to apologize, there’s nothing I can do to her. But if you hit her, people will say that you’re not a gentleman for hitting a woman. It’s not worth it!” Gregory cast a glance at her.
