Chapter 1704 Patriarch Olympias
Tyr and Olympias were standing somewhere not far away from Jules, seemingly out of place with the others because they didn’t care who became the White family patriarch next.
Tyr asked in a low voice, “Oly, who do you prefer to be the patriarch?”
“Of course it’s Uncle Jules.”
Olympias stated flatly, “Boss, you know I don’t get along with Uncle Ansel. I’m almost certain he’s the mastermind behind my father’s incident at the time.”
“Have you ever thought about avenging your family?”
Olympias’s heart jerked violently as a result. “Grandpa no longer pursues this matter,” she finally said after a while. “Why should I seek vengeance?”
Tyr knew in his heart that the girl wasn’t telling the truth. Olympias’ eyes still glowed with resentment even now when she looked at Ansel despite her answer.
Tyr and Olympias, on the other hand, realized that since Regis had decided not to pursue this matter, there would be no way for others to do so, because no one possessed that capability.
Olympias must had wished for vengeance and justice for her family, but would she be successful? The answer was that it couldn’t be done. Even if Regal Palace intervened, it was still impossible.
Regal Palace, at least for the time being, was unable to defeat the Creeds.
The voice of the Great Elder, Clovis, rang out in front of the Eldrian Tower at that precise moment.
“Today, at the request of the former patriarch, we will retrieve his will in the envelope, left by him at the Eldrian Tower. The new patriarch of the White family would be the name written in this letter. Please be patient, everyone! The Council of Elders will now accompany Gramps Ortwin to the Eldrian Tower to retrieve the envelope.”
For a brief moment, everyone held their breath and stared at the Eldrian Tower’s gate.
Ortwin extended his hand to push the Eldrian Tower’s door open. Then he was followed by Clovis and a group of elders as they walked all the way into the tower.
Ortwin walked out about two minutes later, holding the envelope in his hand. Ortwin urged, “Great Elder, it is now your responsibility to open the letter and read out the name of the White family's new patriarch.”
“All right.”
Clovis took the envelope from Ortwin’s hand. Even his body appeared to be trembling slightly at this point.
This revelation was extremely important because it would influence the White family’s future direction and layout. It was also about which of the family’s many factions could rise to the top.
Nearly two hundred people were present, including the dozens of core members of the family, as well as the subordinates or people they brought. Everyone held their breath and fixed their gaze on the Great Elder.
The tension there was so thick that a blade could slice through it.
Even people like Quent, Jehan, or Walric, were all clenching their sweaty palms.
Ansel’s attention had been drawn to the letter in Clovis's grasp. He didn’t dare to blink at all. His heart was racing, and he had the distinct impression that it was about to leap from his chest cavity.
“At long last, the answer will be revealed.”
Tyr and Olympias could not relate to the core members’ anxiety, but since they were already present, they wanted to see who would be the next patriarch of the White family.
Clovis had already read the letter at this point. He was dumbfounded when he saw the name on the letter.
His expression was captured by many people at this precise moment, as if the heavens and the earth were stuck in time. The name that was written on this letter clearly exceeded his expectations, as proven by his shocked expression.
Clovis had assumed that the heir of the White family’s next patriarch would be Ansel, but his expression now revealed that the next patriarch hand-picked by Regis was not Ansel at all.
Ansel’s heart hit rock bottom in an instant. Everyone else next to him also frowned. Clovis’ reaction had explained everything, even though the final result had not been announced.
“Master Jules, that letter does not bear Ansel’s name. Otherwise, it would be impossible for the Great Elder to have this expression.”
Quent and other Jules supporters became enthralled at the same time. It had to be Jules since it wasn’t Ansel.
“Stop talking nonsense.” Jules gave Quent a stern look and warned him to shut up.
Clovis was still holding the letter in his hand at this point and had yet to announce the answer. It seemed that he didn’t want to reveal the answer from the letter.
“Great Elder, hurry up and announce it,” Ortwin approached Clovis from the side and urged him.
Clovis appeared to have recovered his senses from the shock at this point. He revealed slowly, “According to the will of Patriarch Regis, the new patriarch of the White family is...Olympias!!!”
Boom!
Clovis’ words were more terrifying than thunder at the time. The entire crowd stood petrified on the spot. A deafening exclamation did not break out until a few seconds later.
“Olympias?”
“Olympias is the new patriarch of the family. Are you kidding me?”
“This isn’t it! I must have heard it wrong. How could it be that girl, Olympias? This must be a mistake.”
Countless discussions erupted from the crowd. Ansel and the others appeared to be petrified in their place like fossils.
It wasn’t just them who were flabbergasted, Jules and others were no exception. They could have guessed a lot of names. Even Otes, Regis’ fifth child, had come out on their list; a man who had never given a thought to the world and spent his days growing vegetables in the vegetable field. Olympias’ name, on the other hand, had never crossed their minds.
Why would Regis choose a little brat like her as the next patriarch of the White family? A girl who has never been in the family for the past twenty years?
“Boss, I… did I hear it wrong?” Olympias was also taken aback. She noticed that the hairs on her body were standing at this time. She led a lawless life where she used to struggle alone in a war-torn country for years to sell firearms and had gone through a hail of bullets and shells, but she had never been as terrified as she was today.
When Olympias heard her name, she didn’t feel even a smidgeon of excitement; instead, she was terrified. Before he died, her grandfather made such a bold and unexpected move. What was the reason behind this?
“You heard him right. He said your name.” Tyr frowned at the same time.
He tensed up as well, anxiety filling his heart. He didn’t think Regis would actually come up with this strategy. It was no wonder that he had to ask someone to announce the name after he passed away. This man would not be at peace until he died if he were still alive.
