Chapter 1703 Rest In Peace
Ortwin just kept going on and on, several sentences in a row, but Regis did not respond.
The bowl that Ortwin had just picked up fell to the ground with a thud. Regis was still sitting there in an upright posture, but he wasn't breathing.
“Master!” Ortwin’s thunderous yell came from the Regis Tower.
Ansel and others on the square outside, who had been guarding the tower all day, heard his voice, and their nerves tensed. Many people were unable to control their emotions, and tears began to flow from their eyes.
Ortwin eventually exited the Regis Tower by opening the door from the inside. He announced, “Master is in a better place now!”
Ring!
The death knell sounded above the Eldrian Tower. At this point, everyone in the square had knelt down on the ground.
Regis, the patriarch of the White family and a legendary figure in the ancient martial arts world, passed away that night at the age of eighty-six.
Overnight, word of Regis’ death spread across the ancient martial arts world. His funeral was held the next morning at the White family’s mansion. During this time, the ancient martial arts world's major Creeds and organizations sent representatives to mourn him.
Regis’s family, on the other hand, honored his last wish during his lifetime. The old man preferred to be quiet and wanted to find peace after his death. As a result, his funeral was not extravagantly planned. Everything was kept simple.
Those who came to pay their respects were received by the family, but they did not stay long at the mansion. They left, one by one, after paying their respects. These individuals, however, did not immediately leave Fern City after leaving the mansion. Instead, they booked a hotel and remained in the city.
These people’s intentions were self-evident. Now that the patriarch of the White family had kicked the bucket, the entire family would soon experience various forms of instability in the future. The majority of these individuals came from Creeds and large organizations of the ancient martial arts world. They all wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to observe the family. If there was a variable within the family, they could use a variety of methods to benefit from it.
This was the way things were in the world of ancient martial arts. There were no everlasting friends, only everlasting benefits.
Of course, it’s impossible to rule out the possibility that Jules, Ansel, and Clovis had friends or allies among these people. Now that the White family had undergone some changes, these people must had been summoned to Fern City ahead of time to prevent further changes.
Not only had these Creeds or organizations come to Fern City, but so had some of the ancient martial arts world’s hidden top warriors. They did not pay homage to Regis at the mansion after they arrived here. After all, there were a lot of people who had never befriended Regis or the Whites.
They hid in all the corners of the family mansion after they arrived, secretly observing everything. These individuals were not members of any organization, but their goal was the same as that of the Creeds. They may have also been sent over by some people of interest to take advantage of the turmoil in the Whites to see if they could gain some benefits out of the upcoming chaos.
The funeral for Regis lasted three days in total. Tyr and Olympias stayed back to attend the funeral.
Tyr could sense the presence of an aura around him now that he was a warrior of the Transformation Realm. He felt dozens of powerful auras around the mansion during these three days. This kind of aura can only be exuded by Transformation powerhouses.
In other words, within three days of Regis's funeral, there were many Transformation warriors hiding around the mansion, and there were at least a dozen.
Ansel was in charge of saying the prayer three days later. Regis was taken to White Clan Memorial Park on top of a mountain in Fern City by the funeral procession. The funeral was completed on the fourth day, and the entire White family remained shrouded in a sorrowful atmosphere.
On the fifth day, the Council of Elders summoned the family’s core members to the Eldrian Tower as soon as possible in the morning. The purpose of the meeting was to retrieve Regis’ envelope from the tower today and announce the family’s new patriarch.
The day after Regis’ funeral, Tyr and Olympias were about to leave the mansion and return to Komodo Island. Ortwin, on the other hand, asked them to stay when they were leaving.
Ortwin hoped they would wait for the White family patriarch to be announced and confirmed before they left. Even though neither Tyr nor Olympias understood why, they did not refuse in the end and chose to stay.
Around eight o’clock in the morning, a group of people had already arrived in front of the Eldrian Tower. Ortwin and the council elders had already arrived at this point.
More than a hundred people were crammed beneath them, the majority of whom were men under Ansel’s command. Today was a critical day for Ansel, as he stood a good chance of becoming the patriarch of the White family.
Jules, on the other hand, had brought with him a large group of people.
Apart from that, Regis’ other children appeared. Although some of them were not present during the patriarchal conflict, they were required to be present when the new patriarch was chosen today.
Regis had nine children. His second son, Zeph, had died as a result of past events. His third son, Fynn, died as a result of his obsession with cultivation, whereas his ninth son, Dillon, had already left the family. Only six children remained.
Only five of the six were present, and Otes was not among them.
For years, Otes had been growing vegetables and herbs in his vegetable field. He was unconcerned about his family in any way. Otes showed up at Regis’ funeral just a few days ago. Today, he had yet to appear, even though the new patriarch was about to be chosen.
Everyone was buzzing in front of Eldrian Tower at the time, debating who Regis would appoint as patriarch before his death.
Ansel was even prepared to take over the position. Given the current broad view of the entire family, in terms of qualifications and strength, the new patriarch was none other than Ansel.
Those who supported Jules remained astoundingly silent. They were more composed than Ansel’s group.
“Look at them, Master Jules! His supporters acted as if he had already assumed the role of patriarch.”
When Quent looked at Ansel and the other group over there, he felt very upset. “If you ask me, the position of patriarch must be meant for you.”
“Shut up! I have no intention of fighting for the position! Stop talking nonsense,” Jules said, glaring at Quent.
“Master Jules, if the name announced in the envelope is Ansel, give me the word and I’ll rush up to kill him right away,” Ettore, who was still wearing a bandage on his lower abdomen, said coldly.
“Ettore, I don’t want you to make the same mistake twice.” Jules’s expression had turned completely gloomy.
Ettore was well aware of what had happened the previous time which triggered Jules’ rage. He chose to hold his tongue in the end, but his right hand clung to his blade’s handle.
