Lillian stepped in front of Ethan Shaw. “Dad, I told you, he’s my—”
“Enough,” Mr. Davenport cut her off sharply, his eyes locked coldly onto Ethan. “I’m asking him.”
Even in his fifties, Mr. Davenport looked sharp. He wore a gold-toned traditional robe, his tanned skin and the fine silver-chain glasses giving him a shrewd, no-nonsense vibe.
Ethan answered calmly, “I’m her bodyguard. My friend and I were out of work, so Miss Davenport hired us both.”
Before Mr. Davenport could respond, the Third Madam gave a small chuckle. “Oh come on, sir. Why so suspicious of the young miss? She just hired some help. It’s not like the Davenport family can’t afford a couple bodyguards.”
