Chapter 285
Jane who was having a peaceful sleep, always felt a little scared inside, as if a chilling breeze was coming from behind.
Groggily, she turned over in bed.
It appeared like a pair of deep green eyes flashed by.
Startled, Jane quickly sat up.
Before she could even say anything, the night light in the room turned on. A figure dressed in black, Daisy, emerged from the darkness, "Awake now?"
Jane widened her shimmering eyes, "Sister Daisy, why are you at our place, how did you get into my room?"
"Why the chit chat?" Daisy scolded Jane.
She threw a glance towards the black cat, "Go, meet your new owner!"
The black cat stared down at Jane, then arrogantly turned its head away. "How could you? After all these years of me following you, you've decided to hand me over to this baby?"
"Hmm?" Daisy slung her head back defiantly, "Any objections?"
"Meeow—"
No sooner had the black cat opened its mouth, Daisy interrupted, "Even if you have something against, I won't let you speak. Just bear with it!"
Jane took a look at Daisy, and then at the black cat, her pupils quivering, "Sister Daisy, does...does this kitten speak human language?"
Daisy scorned her again, "It doesn't speak human language, it's just that you're its master, so you can connect with it on a soul level and understand what it's saying."
Jane: "..."
She felt as if her worldview had been completely overturned. She used to think that being engaged in lifetime scientific research before her transmigration had somehow put her among the minority at the pinnacle of human civilization.
But now...
She could accept the existence of ghosts,...entities made up of pure condensed energy, yet the idea that she could suddenly have a telepathic connection with a cat seemed too far-fetched.
"There's nothing too bizarre in this vast world, so there's nothing to be shocked about," Daisy said calmly, observing her reaction.
"I brought Little Black to you because it can help save your brothers," Daisy continued. "With it by your side, you'll be able to see some things you couldn't see before, and it can help you catch them. But let me make it clear first. It can only help you with problems caused by ghosts. As for trouble caused by humans, it can't do anything about it."
Upon hearing these words, the black cat's fur bristled. It hissed menacingly, "I am called Lord Meow, you'd better call me Lord Meow. You're the one who's Little Black, your whole family are Little Black!"
Daisy didn't bother responding. She walked over to puppy's bed, picked him up and said, "As a trade-off, I am going to take away this silly puppy."
Then she left through the window.
"Sister Daisy, we're on the third floor..." But before she could finish her sentence, Daisy was gone.
The black cat followed suit.
Attempting to show off, Daisy landed flat on her butt in the garden under Jane’s window, while the black cat gracefully landed by her side, "Stupid woman!"
Daisy gritted her teeth at the cat, "You damned feline. If you don’t change your attitude toward me, you can stay here forever!”
"Heh!" The black cat snorted disdainfully. "If it wasn’t for your incompetence, causing me to be stuck on this mission for so long, why would I stay here for such a long time?”
Daisy stiffened her neck, shamelessly retorting: "Well, so what if I'm incompetent, huh?
"Anyway, I'm quite comfortable in this world. If I can't complete the mission, then I can just stay here forever, eating and drinking to my heart's content. There's nothing wrong with that!"
"Heh, alright. Then you can stay here with that silly puppy, enjoying all the delicacies!" The black cat grumpily cast a glance at the trembling little white puppy being cradled by Daisy.
With a look of utter disdain, the black cat leapt away and returned to Jane's room.
Seeing the haughty black cat standing on the back of the sofa, Jane cautiously asked, "Blackie, has Sister Daisy left?"
"You're the Blackie, your whole family is Blackie!" The black cat roared indignantly at Jane. "She hasn't left. She's dead!"
Jane: "…"
Jane was in shock. She'd been scolded by a cat...
Comparing Daisy's interaction with Blackie and her own situation, she definitely didn't have the domineering personality to win this arrogant cat over like Daisy did.
So, she had to change her approach.
Act cute!
Having set her mind on this, her sparkling eyes were filled with tearful grievance as she stared at Blackie...
Blackie originally turned its head with an arrogant attitude, ignoring her.
But when it glanced back, little droplets of tears were sliding down Jane's soft and white cheek, yet she made no sound.
Her pitiful yet stubborn appearance was truly heart wrenching, even for a cat!
With a swift leap, Blackie jumped onto the pink bed, its soft paw authoritatively patting Jane's soft little face. "Wake up, stop crying, you look ugly when you cry!"
Jane immediately swept away the tear drop on her fair, tender face with her hand. In a choked milky voice, she said, "Alright. Since Blacky is asking me not to cry, I'll stop crying."
"Meow ——" Blacky growled ferociously, looking ready to bristle fur in rage. However, seeing the tear-filled, bright orbs of Jane's eyes, his anger immediately deflated. "Fine, fine, it's just a codename. Call me whatever you like."
Jane gave a sweet smile and hugged Blacky in her arms. When Blacky tried to struggle, she quickly pouted, "Sister Daisy used you to replace my little white so I can't hold little white anymore. And now you don't want me to hold you either? Whimper……"
“Okay, okay. The kitty is here for you. Here for you. Just don't cry, please don't cry!” With that, Blacky obediently nestled into Jane's arms, no longer trying to escape.
Jane was delighted again, her smile as radiant as ‘Little Sun’ showing eight tiny, milky white teeth.
Blacky disdainfully shook his head, “Like master, like puppy indeed. You're just as foolish as that silly puppy called Little White!"
Jane ’s obsidian eyes sparkled curiously, “Blacky, who is Sister Daisy and why is she so impressive?”
Blacky rolled his eyes, “Don’t ask. Even if I explain, you won’t understand.”
"All you need to know is that helping you is her mission.” Yawning, Blacky added, “But now, that conscienceless woman has tossed this mission to me."
Blacky’s reluctance to talk about Sister Daisy’s identity left Jane uninterested to probe further.
She posed another question, asking with her tender toddler voice, “If Blacky, you help me catch the ghost that harms my brothers, will they no longer encounter accidents?”
Blacky rolled his eyes and glanced scornfully at Jane, “Huh, you think capturing the ghost is easy? And even with the ghost captured, that doesn't necessarily mean accidents won’t befall your brothers. Didn't that conscienceless woman tell you? She and I can only help you with the ghost issue. For problems involving humans, you would still need to solve them yourselves.”
Saying this, Blacky yawned again and fell asleep.
Jane furrowed her brows. By now, she knew that the perpetrator behind the scenes who had targeted her brothers was Black Nightmare, a dark scientist who dabbled in the esoteric and intended to steal her time machine in her previous life.
But she didn't know whether this person had started targeting her brothers before she time-travelled, or whether he became more dangerous because of her.
As for the situation in Capital City, it was time she had an honest conversation with Lucas.
