Chapter 177
"How do you know Mr. Granger? Why is he so polite to you?" Harold asked.
"I did him a favor," Yolanda replied.
"What kind of favor?"
"That's his private matter. Are you sure you want to know?"
Harold waved his hand dismissively. "Alright. Forget it."
Nevertheless, doubt still lingered in his eyes. He asked with concern, "You're not doing anything dangerous behind our backs, are you?"
"No."
Upon hearing Yolanda's calm response, Harold frowned and scrutinized her head to toe. For the first time, he realized he didn't know this daughter of his at all.
After a moment, he sighed and said, "As you saw today, our company ran into some problems, but they're nothing serious. We'll be back on track with the loan we secured today.
"I've been busy raising funds and didn't want your mother to worry, so I said I was on a business trip.
"In short, I'm confident I can resolve the company's issues quickly. Keep what happened this afternoon to yourself. Don't mention it to your mother or Yvonne. Act like you don't know anything."
Yolanda nodded. "Understood."
She wasn't in the habit of chatting with Diana or Yvonne anyway, and they wouldn't ask her about it.
Harold relaxed a bit. "Alright then. Go downstairs for dinner."
Not long after Yolanda went downstairs, Harold joined her in the dining room.
Yvonne was trying hard to read Harold's expression to figure out what he and Yolanda had discussed in the study. Unfortunately for her, she couldn't glean anything from his demeanor.
At the dinner table, Harold seemed to be in good spirits as he asked Yvonne about her grades and how she was adjusting at school. Seizing the opportunity, Yvonne pouted playfully.
"Dad, you've been so busy lately! Our family hasn't gone on a trip in ages!"
Harold nodded. "It has indeed been a while since we traveled together. We haven't even celebrated Yolanda's coming out of the juvenile detention center yet! Let's find a day when we can all go out for dinner together."
Yvonne's expression shifted slightly but she quickly masked it with a smile. "Sure! I'm looking forward to it!"
Diana also seemed to be in a good mood and chimed in cheerfully, "It's true. It's been ages since our family went out for a meal together."
"When Landy and Yvonne are on break, let's go out for Japanese food! I know a place with incredibly fresh sashimi that Landy will love."
Harold glanced at Diana with surprise before looking back at Yolanda with a complex expression. He knew his wife had never liked Yolanda, yet now she showed concern for her.
Yvonne felt a fit of intense jealousy but had to maintain her obedient daughter's facade in front of Diana and Harold as she forced herself to enjoy the meal.
Yolanda was in good spirits today. She didn't rush to leave the table first. But as for Yvonne, as soon as she finished eating, she made an excuse about needing to write something and dashed upstairs.
Harold and Diana didn't notice Yvonne's unusual behavior but praised her for being sensible. They also reminded Yolanda not to get too proud of her top grades and to keep studying hard.
Yolanda didn't argue. After dinner, she returned to her room and chatted with Gavin until 11:00 p.m. before going to bed.
…
The next day after school, Yolanda found Bryce waiting for her by the classroom door.
