Chapter 174

As soon as Jeremy Granger and Cianna Lovell finished speaking, the entire bank fell into silence. Everyone around them was dumbfounded. They stared at Jeremy and Yolanda with shock and confusion. "What was going on? Why was Mr. Granger being so polite to a school kid?" Lucia covered her mouth in surprise. As for Isaiah, he didn't dare utter a word. He was wondering if he was in a hallucination from the adrenaline rush. "Just what was the deal? How could someone like Yolanda know Jeremy? And on what grounds could Mr. Granger lower himself to apologize to Yolanda? Could Yolanda's threat earlier to fire them wasn't a bluff?" he thought. Lucia and Isaiah both sucked in a sharp breath. Harold, Yolanda's father, was equally dumbfounded. He was unsure how his daughter possibly knew someone as important as Jeremy, let alone have him extend an invitation so respectfully. Yolanda glanced at Jeremy and his wife, speaking in a flat tone. "Mr. Granger, Ms. Lovell," she greeted. Cianna quickly said, "Ms. Henderson, if you don't mind, please call me Cianna." Jeremy, who had noticed the tense atmosphere since entering, waved at Cianna, gesturing for her to be quiet. He then asked, "Ms. Henderson, what happened just now?" "Mr. Granger, it was all a misunderstanding!" "Yes, yes! A misunderstanding!" Lucia and Isaiah quickly spoke up. However, Jeremy didn't even look at them as he hissed, "I'm talking to Ms. Henderson." Lucia and Isaiah reluctantly fell silent, their faces flushed with unease. When Jeremy turned to look at Yolanda, his expression changed rapidly, putting on a flattering smile. "Ms. Henderson, please tell me what happened." Yolanda looked at Isaiah. "This person used improper means to reject my family's loan application process," she said. She then pointed at Lucia. "And she protected her subordinate, threatening to put the Hendersons on the blacklist and have me sent to juvenile detention." "Mr. Granger, it was all a misunderstanding—" Isaiah desperately tried to explain but was cut off by Jeremy again. "Enough!" he bellowed. Jeremy then turned to Yolanda, bowing deeply in apology. "Ms. Henderson, I'm very sorry. I failed to manage my subordinates. I am at fault, please accept my apology." The bank employees who had just been hoping to see Yolanda and Harold arrested were stunned to see their boss apologizing to Yolanda. However, Yolanda showed no pleasure at Jeremy's apology, her expression remaining calm. "They are your people, you deal with them." With those simple words, Jeremy understood he couldn't just let this go. He turned to face Isaiah and Lucia. "Mr. Granger, let me explain!" "Mr. Granger, it was a misunderstanding…" Isaiah and Lucia were sweating profusely, desperately trying to explain themselves, but Jeremy coldly cut them off. "There's nothing to explain!" Before Lucia could say more, Jeremy raised his hand and slapped her across the face. "I put you in charge of this branch, and this is how you manage it?" he shouted. Lucia held her stinging cheek, tears in her eyes, but dared not speak further. "Both of you are fired!" With those words, Jeremy had essentially passed judgment. Their termination from Union Bank was final, leaving no room for appeal.
