Chapter 147
"What's so amazing about Bailee? It's all thanks to Landy!" Diana said. "Without her help, Bailee wouldn't have gotten a call from Starry Gemworks."
Diana naturally didn't believe that Yolanda had such influence, but since the credit belonged to Yolanda, it was considered hers as well. She couldn't let this favor go to waste.
Upon hearing Diana's words, Eleanor scoffed derisively. "Yolanda? Do you even hear yourself, Diana? Don't you know how insignificant Yolanda is?
"Bailee just said that Starry Gemworks noticed her resume and considered her outstanding. That's why they called. How does Yolanda fit into this?
"Do you actually believe she was talking to the general manager of Starry Gemworks? Such lies might fool country bumpkins, but not me!"
Bailee also looked at Yolanda with disdain. "Yolanda can't possibly know any big shots. I received the call because I'm talented, not because of her."
She had forgotten that she had previously rejected Yvonne's offer, thinking she would fail the interview process. Now, she confidently believed she was truly talented.
"You're truly ungrateful!" Diana was so enraged by their words that she could barely contain her anger.
However, Eleanor coldly snorted. She saw herself as the mother of a renowned jewelry designer now and spoke with even greater confidence.
"You're the ungrateful one here! Now that you're living well, you look down on us. I finally see that now. Coming here today was a mistake.
"From now on, we won't have any dealings with ungrateful people like you! Let's go, Bailee!"
With that, Eleanor grabbed the fruit basket she had brought and stormed out. "You don't deserve our fruit!"
Diana was so furious she could barely speak. Without waiting for Eleanor and Bailee to leave, she got up and headed upstairs. She stomped up the stairs and quickly disappeared from view.
Once Diana was gone, Yvonne put on a false, polite smile and said, "Take care, Aunt Eleanor." Then, she too went upstairs.
Meanwhile, Yolanda remained seated on the couch and ate the fruit on the table. She wasn't particularly angry at Eleanor's and Bailee's behavior. Since she had the means to get Bailee into Starry Gemworks, she could also arrange for her departure.
Yolanda was willing to help only because she wanted Diana to gradually realize that Yvonne was not her most outstanding daughter. Eventually, Diana would give up on Yvonne.
Originally, she planned to let Yvonne experience firsthand the disdain of colleagues toward someone who got a job through connections after Yvonne joined Starry Gemworks.
However, it seemed that that was no longer necessary.
Just as Yolanda was about to head upstairs, she noticed Diana standing on the stairs. Diana had initially retreated to her room to cool off but found herself increasingly enraged. She had come out to get a drink.
When she saw Yolanda, her face immediately darkened as she vented her frustration, "Such vanity at such a young age. You'll only get worse as you grow older. If you lack real skill, don't talk so big!
"I thought you might have finally realized the importance of hard work, but look at you now—still full of bluster without actual ability. What's the difference between you now and the trash from juvenile detention?"
Diana was baffled why, whenever she thought Yolanda might be changing for the better, Yolanda would disappoint her again.
