Behave Yourself
"Daughter, this money is left for your brother…" Selena wanted to say the money was left for Augus to pursue his education.
The money that had been placed in her pocket was not easily dispensed with.
Unfortunately, in front of Valentina, she had no choice but to hand it over.
"Hand it to me." Valentina said, her face expressionless, her voice cold and firm.
Facing Valentina's stern gaze, Selena felt perturbed. Initially, she wanted to play the emotional card, but now she didn't dare to.
No one was better at calculations than Selena, whose appetite was big. Although she desired to keep this sum of money for herself, compared to the tens of millions worth of property in Biddeford - what was this small amount?
She couldn't risk losing the big for the small, the house was the real fortune.
First, she needed to pacify the person, then the property would follow.
Having made up her mind, Selena went back to her room to fetch her card.
"The mayor rewarded me with a million, I used some for home renovations, replaced the old with a new fridge and TV, spending a total of seventy-eight thousand." Selena placed her card on the table.
Valentina glanced at the gold earring hanging from her ear.
Selena quickly touched her earring and explained, "I bought only this one - for 2500, and a few dresses. I didn't buy anything else; everything else truly went into home expenses."
Valentina: "The password."
Selena recited the password.
"From your behavior towards me from childhood until now, you should know very well. If you want to live out your old age with all your limbs intact, you had better behave." Valentina picked up the card. "Don't harbor improper thoughts, or don't blame me for disregarding Augus's feelings."
George is a weak man, but he's been decent to the original host. Considering the money spent on house renovations and new appliances, Victoria could think of it as fulfilling her filial duty on behalf of Valentina towards their father.
"How could you think of Mom like that… eh," before Selena could finish her sentence, Valentina stood up.
Once Valentina entered the room, Selena immediately dropped her false smile and pulled a long face. She touched her gold earring, regretting not buying the gold necklace and bracelet.
Diana at least had a conscience, willingly giving her the bonus.
Selena looked at her son and came up with an idea.
"Augus, you and your sister are close; you should get her to give you her house. Any house in Biddeford is worth tens of millions…"
Augus turned his head towards Valentina's room and yelled, "Sister."
Selena jumped in fright, "Eh, what are you calling your sister for, child?" She raised her hand, indicating she was about to hit Augus.
"Do you want to be the death of me? There will be a time when you will regret this."
She had two more days before school started.
Valentina originally wanted to register on the last day, but she couldn't bear Selena's 'enthusiasm'.
Decidedly, she left on the second day.
She had brought her luggage the previous day and hadn't touched it since, so Valentina picked it up and left. It contained a few outfits purchased for her by William in Chadron, her computer, and a few half-drunk bottles of wine gifted to her by Grey.
Augus accompanied her to the airport.
"You really won't go to the Biddeford to attend senior high school? Whichever school you favor, I can arrange it for you. If you're worried about keeping up acadically, I can tutor you." Valentina asked Augus again.
Augus shook his head, "I'm used to the teaching at Lakeside Elite, and I must get into Capital University next year. By then, my foot will also be healed."
He must get into Capital University, to attend the same school as his older sister.
He absolutely must not encounter any mishaps.
Yet Valentina stated, "I can arrange for you to get into Capital University too."
Augus was stunned and subconsciously asked, "Capital University too?"
Valentina confirmed, "Yes."
After the shock passed, Augus regained his composure, "I want to get in on my own merits."
Valentina didn't say anything more. With Rory and the Lakeside Elite's principal present, she wasn't worried about Augus being bullied.
Valentina handed to Augus the card she had recovered from Selena.
Augus refused to take it.
Valentina said, "It's pocket money."
"I have my own pocket money, and besides, who has so much pocket money?" Not even a typical rich second-generation kid had that much pocket money, right?
"How much can you earn from your summer holiday part-time job? You even bought me flowers and a watch." Valentina simply stuffed the card into his pocket, "I can't be bothered to carry this much money around - tell me if it's insufficient."
Considering his sister's temperament, in the end, Augus accepted the card.
"Hey sis, that gentleman who got off the plane with you last night, is he from Biddeford?"
"What do you want to ask him for?"
"I just think he doesn't look like an ordinary person. I know you're capable, but Biddeford is a big city, we can't compare with our small town. I'm afraid you'll act impulsively... considering how pretty you've become, I worry... could he maybe look after you somewhat?"
Thinking of William, Valentina nods, "Yeah, he's even more influential than the mayor in Biddeford. Don't worry about it."
With her tone, Augus knows she must be exaggerating, but it still puts her at ease.
"Okay, I'm leaving. Call me if you need anything." Valentina drags her luggage towards the departure lounge.
Augus stands in place, watching her leave. One hand tightly clutching the card in her pocket, this is the most money she's ever held, and it indeed makes her a bit nervous.
Meanwhile, William who is in a meeting, his phone on silent begins to vibrate.
He slightly frowns, habitually disregarding the buzz.
However, moments later he uncharacteristically reaches over and answers the call.
On seeing the caller ID, his brows relax. He then discreetly glances over at his nephew, Lewis, sitting on his left.
Soon after, he interrupts the employee who was currently presenting, and picks up the call, "Has Miss Ricardo arrived in Biddeford?"
The now quiet conference room is filled with glances exchanged between the key team members.
From their memory, this was the first time the CEO, Leng, has answered a call during a meeting.
What's more peculiar is his tone—as well as him calling her "Miss Ricardo."
Unconcerned about his surroundings, William was making a phone call, "I'll see you in the evening, what time? Do you need me to pick you up?"
The Uncle William is picking her up from the airport himself? And he even seems a little anxious. This is definitely a first.
More importantly, the person he's picking up is a woman.
Lewis looked at his Uncle William in surprise.
He thought to himself: Is our perennially unromantic Uncle William actually blooming his love?
When did all this happen? How come there had been no rumors?
Are there any prestigious families with the surname Mo in Biddeford?
Then what about Miss Doyle from the Doyle family?
Valentina sat in the waiting room, "May I ask, was it Mr. Felton who arranged for the people from the Felton Family to secretly protect me before?"
"Of course." William was puzzled as to why she would ask that.
"Oh... Then they're still around my house?"
William raised his eyebrow slightly. Given her skills, how could she not be aware of whether those people were still around her house or not?
They had, of course, left a long time ago. There was simply no need for them to stay around any longer.
Having spent two months living under the same roof, coupled with Valentina's tone and her words, William, as a smart man, easily understood her meaning.
So, he played along and replied, "Yes, they are."
Valentina: "Then I can rest assured about my family in Mapleville."
So that's why.
Knowing Valentina's intentions, the corner of William's mouth couldn't help but curve into a smile, a smile spreading to his eyes.
No wonder they say "speech is an art."
The bodyguard she's asking money from, she's so natural about it, without exposing any intentions, and not owing any favors.
Saying she's a little imp or a cunning individual definitely understates her.
Those in the meeting room looked at the beaming William, feeling an inexplicable thrill. Looking at the similarly bemused Lewis, they all knew how abnormal William's behavior was at that moment.
"Mr. Felton will be entrusted with the safety of my family."
"Miss Ricardo, rest assured." After hanging up, William subconsciously thought of letting Leonard arrange it, before remembering that Leonard was still overseas recovering from his injuries.
After the meeting, William had another assistant pick a dozen or so good fighters to head to the Ricardo family in Mapleville.
After the battle at Doujiao, Valentina knew she would be targeted by 'shadows,' and sure enough, she noticed it during one of her outings.
If it was not for her living in the God Armed Alliance, the 'shadows' would have acted. She went to Biddeford one day ahead. Selena was one reason, 'shadows' were another.
She didn't have enough manpower here, so she had to ask William.
Hopefully, 'shadows' will not target Augus and George.
Before boarding the plane, Valentina received a call from Rory.
He said his son, Eric was going to school in Biddeford as well, right next to her school, and asked her if she's going to school. If not, he would take them together.
"I'm about to get on the plane. I'll be there tonight," Valentina said.
There, Rory slapped his thigh: One step too late.
