Augus Had a Fight

"Did you delete your post on the forum?" Diana got up early and found that the post was gone and ran to inquire in Augus's room. Diana always knew about Augus's account on the Biddeford University math forum. She just couldn't understand why. Since the problem was solved by Valentina, she didn't create her own account to post it, but instead let Augus do it. At this moment, Diana still didn't believe that Valentina was capable of solving the problem. Augus replied, "Yes." "Why?" "Do I need a reason?" Seeing Augus ignore her but get close to Valentina, Diana felt extremely imbalanced. Originally, because of Augus's personality, he always kept his distance from everyone. That was fine. But what was happening now? Although she didn't particularly like this younger brother and even didn't want her school friends to know she had this lame younger brother, she just couldn't stand Augus's disregard for her and his attention to Valentina. Pressing down the resentment in her heart, Diana asked, "Isn't it said that solving the problem guarantees admission to Biddeford University? Was Valentina admitted?" "I did actually receive private messages from the Principal of Biddeford University and Paul, but Val doesn't need it. She can get into Biddeford University through her excellent grades," Augus replied as he picked up his schoolbag and told Diana, who was blocking the doorway, "I need to go to school now." Even Paul sent a private message? Diana was a girl with high aspirations. While all the girls in school liked the charming boy, Byron, she was thinking of studying hard to get into Biddeford University to meet the math genius, Paul. "She refused?" Diana couldn't believe it, her eyes wide with shock and her voice squeaky. Inside, she twisted with a wild jealousy. "You're not lying, right? Considering how big this news is, how could the principal of Biddeford University not come personally?" "Believe it or not." Augus slung his bag over his shoulder, walked past Diana, and left. Diana gritted her teeth crossly. The more she looked, the more she felt that Augus was exactly like Valentina, who had changed her nature. Both were utterly detestable. Diana didn't rush to leave. Instead, she started rummaging through Augus's desk which was filled with books after everyone had gone to work or school, and no one was at home. She even opened the drawers to look inside, only to see the new mobile phone that Valentina bought for Augus. Diana picked up the phone. Looking at the model that was even more beautiful than the one in the ads, she thought about her own phone, a cheap one bought two years ago which was already so laggy and near unusable. She wished she could just crush this new phone in her hand. She composed herself and attempted to unlock Augus's screen. She didn't succeed the first time. She then tried the password from Augus's old phone and successfully unlocked the phone. When she entered the forum, the first thing she saw was the tens of thousands of private messages, bursting with praises of "great god" directed at Valentina, that tinted Diana's eyes red with envy. She found the private message from the Principal of Biddeford University to Augus, seeing the hefty conditions he offered, promising a house and a car. But all of these were rejected by Augus with a single sentence. Everything was just as Augus had described. She then found the message from Paul. Seeing Paul begging for five minutes of conversation time, Diana's hands started to tremble, bordering on madness. But she restrained herself and noticed one key point. From start to finish, Augus never revealed that Valentina was the one who did the work. Even the Principal of Biddeford University and Paul had no clue if this genius was a man or a woman. So she started looking for that draft book again, her actions verging on neurotic at the moment. Finally, she found it under a stack of math exercise books. Opening it, indeed, it had the entire solution process of that problem, a full six pages, the same as the photos Augus posted online. Diana was thrilled, so ecstatic that her breath became heavy. A smile curled up the corners of her mouth, and her eyes shone with a crazy light. ... "Have you heard? The class teacher and the math teacher from Class 8 both resigned." "Resigned? I heard they were fired, and even the math teacher's teaching certificate was revoked." "What nonsense! Just a suspicion of cheating a student in exams leads to dismissal and revoking of the teaching certificate? Besides, it’s not even certain whether it’s a false accusation. Do you think a poor student like Valentina could outperform Byron?" "It's not nonsense. My uncle works in the education department, and he said the mayor put pressure on them. These two days they have been holding meetings about falsely accusing students of cheating in Class 8. And there's an inside story! Not to mention the teachers, my uncle predicted that Christopher would probably be in trouble too." "The mayor? Sounds like you’re bragging. How could the mayor get involved in such a matter? Do you think Valentina is a relative of the mayor? Even his own daughter couldn't be so defiant." "There might actually be some connection, otherwise why do you think Christopher would apologize in front of all the teachers and students?" "Do you think the cause was only about falsely accusing students of cheating in the exam? That day Valentina had been in the principal’s office with all the school leaders for nearly an hour. Who knows what other matters might have happened? Police even arrived later on. Do you think it's just about the false cheating accusation?" "Also, I heard from a few students that they saw Valentina with a man who was very handsome and well-dressed, not knowing what they were talking about. Valentina might have some powerful connections." "Humph, let's wait and see. This matter is definitely not over yet." "Lucky for me, I was standing in punishment in the class corridor that time and I saw that guy you all are talking about. To be honest, even I, as a guy, think he's strikingly handsome; such distinct aura from a far distance." "Damn, what the hell happened in the principal's office that day!" Byron was seated at his desk, engrossed in solving problems. With the SAT nearing, the study atmosphere was utterly tense. Yet, because of Valentina's situation, the classroom was unexpectedly lively this past few days, more than it had ever been. No one was interested in studying, rather everyone was absorbed in gossiping. Listening to his classmates' animated discussions and speculations, Byron recalled the instance when he ran into Rory underneath the principal's office. And of course, the impeccably dressed man who was the source of endless imagination and curiosity among the female students. The buzz around this matter maintained in the school for days, and when it finally seemed like it was waning, everyone started to focus back on their studies. However, on Monday, during the flag-raising event, they were astonished to discover - they had a new principal. The new principal, gentle and congenial, was previously the deputy principal of another school but had now transferred to their school as the principal. Every class was in turmoil again from teachers to the leaders. Even the guards and the cafeteria stuff knew about Valentina from the eighth class. "Hey Augus, is what they're saying all true? Does your plump sister really have a big background?" "You seem to be in high spirits lately, even changed your phone to the most recent expensive one. Has your home been demolished, or has your sister met some rich, powerful man?" "Why not share the details with us? Now that your family is rich, can you get your leg treated?" "He's been limping for so many years. I reckon his muscles must have atrophied, most likely it can't be treated." "No kidding, your older sister who used to be plump doesn't seem so anymore. I saw her this morning. She's lost a lot of weight. And she's quite pretty when she's skinny. I bet she'll become even prettier after a while." "No wonder she's acquainted with some man who is both rich and influential." "Uh-oh, there's been a fight among the second-year high school students." "Who? Who's fighting?" "It's unclear. It seems to have started over a verbal spat, and it was quite intense. They drew blood. Both ambulance and police are at the scene." "I heard the boy who threw the first punch is quite a whiz kid in his class. The boy he attacked comes from a powerful family. This young scholar might be in serious trouble." "The rich kid must have said something really antagonizing for him to throw the first punch." "He must be the one from class one, right? The guy who threw the punch is partially lame. I guess they must have been making fun of his disability." Valentina, who had been resting with her eyes closed at her desk, opened her eyes. "It was more than just his disability. It seems they made inappropriate remarks about his sister." "It started as a one-on-one, but when the victim started losing, he called some of his close pals to join in beating up the boy."
